I received my FZ 290 with a 2.2 ghz processor, yet, in device manager it shows 1.8ghz. On the vista "computer" screen it shows it as the T7500 2.2 ghz, which is correct. What does this mean? Is the processor not being used to its full potential or is there actually a 1.8 ghz processor there? I don't get it...

It's not being used to its full potential. Look into SpeedStep.

Asked and answered a few times here. Basically it boils down to the fact that Sony uses one image to populate the hard drives of several different models. In your case that image was originally built on a 1.8ghz machine. That's why it shows up in device manager that way. Not to worry, it does NOT affect performance of the machine at all Vista does not need to be configured differently for different CPU speeds.

Download a copy of CPUZ to see the real specs on your processor.

If you do a clean install, device manager will show the correct speed. Do a search in this forum, there was another thread on the topic already and I believe the "fix" was to just delete the CPU from device manager and reboot. But check on the thread BEFORE you do that.

Yes it is. See my reply above. This is a common non-issue with Sony images on the FZ series machines. It is totally cosmetic.

Thanks for the prompt responses. I will be doing a clean install on Friday and I'll update on your clean install thread. I just wanted to make sure everything was fine because this seemed very awkward.
