I've been downloading different applications for burning some divx files as Video DVDs (non of them worked for some reason).
after I was done with it the dvd rom still worked, I remember putting NBA live 08 DVD in it.
next time I put a DVD in the drive nothing happened. I wen to my computer and it doesn't show my DVD rom.
went to device manager, it says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I click on the check for solutions button, a little thingy comes up loading something, then it goes away and nothing happens.
thats it.
I went to sony website but I can't find the dvd rom driver anywhere.
I REALLY would appreciate some help!

Asked and answered many times here. Go to the top of the screen and use the search box and search for "DVD registry". The issue is that one of the pieces of burner software you installed added some registry entries that cause Vista to choke when it tries to find the drive. Removing them will fix the issue and not affect the third party software you installed. I don't have the specifics of the registry entries in question, which is why I directed you to the search box.

Did you unistall the video burning software?
try system restore to a point before the uinstall of video burning software.
The third party softwares mess up the device driver file and registry entries for the dvd drive in vista.
There are many ways to get back the drive
1. System restore
2. Reinstalling the third party application
3. Registry deletions (described in the forum before) -

Yours is the first report I have seen of this issue being anything more than a registry entry problem. What makes you say it is also screwing up the device driver??? Of the three solutions, the only one that WOULD correct a driver issue, if it were that, would be the first one.
Not saying your wrong here, just trying to get to the bottom of this, because I noticed in another thread you also said something about the burner software causing a driver issue.

Gary do you have roxio media creator, sonic stage softwares installed in your FZ. Try uninstalling them and see if the dvd drive is working fine.
I also think that the registry cleanup with ccleaner (without backup) will result in these issues. -

I am just trying to find out if you did check out the registry entries or not. And also trying to find out what made you think there was a driver issue as well. I am not saying there isn't some issue. I am just trying to find out how you realized there was and if it IS related to the third party apps.
I am curious because other folks have uninstalled these and I don't recall any of them having driver issues afterward, only registry ones.

Here is the support from microsoft (for xp) as this continues with vista too

I still think if you uninstall the Roxio product, go into device manager and delete the DVD drive and reboot, Vista will reinstall the correct drivers.
