    Hello everybody

I'm having this issue and tryed everything to get my network adapter to connect to my network cable. I reinstalled my network driver but the problem remains the same.

Does anyone know how to fix this network adapter issue?

Support guys told me to restore the computer an to earlier time using the System Restore feature, but I'd like to know if there's someething else i could do before that.

    any suggestions?

    regards

You will need to be a bit more specific as to what is happening. Give us details on EXACTLY what you are having happen. Start us from a right click on the wireless connector in the notification area (aka system tray). Tel us what you observer, or don't observe but think you should.

Just curious - but you haven't switched off LAN by any chance, have you?
Either via Windows or the Smart Wi-Fi utility...

    Hi,
thanks in advance. Well, the problem is simple, when I plug my network cable (which I'm sure it works, because I tested it on another computer) the computer doesn't recognize it. I mean, that the notification tray doesn't change the icon. When I go to my Local Network Connection Icon and try to diagnose the problem, it tells me that I must plug the network cable.

I already reinstalled my network controller, I tested it with the tester tool from Vaio recovery center (and works normal).

    About what DetlevCM says
    .
Well I haven't checked that (would you please tell me how?).

I hope someone can help me figure out how make it work. :)

    regards

I am betting he is referring to the switch on the front of the machine. Is the green WLAN light on?

    hi ScuderiaConchiglia,
if it is about WLAN switch, the problem persists wheter it is on or off.
maybe a WLAN issue that might be blocking the wired connection?
    best regards.

How did you reinstall the network adapter driver? I would recommend unstalling the current driver from the device manager (including delete the driver software), restart, wait for Vista to install its generic driver, and then install the driver from Sony.

PS: This is for the wired netwrok adapter : Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller.

I would recommend to check some additional settings.
Open the Device Manager and go to the properties settings of the network card.
In one of the settings (Advanced ?) you will find some activations settings,
for instance controlled by OS, Magic packet.

    Checking whether connections are "active":

Smart Wi-Fi utility it can switch any "connection" on/off
    check that utility

Then - check if devices are active in device manager

Check if devices are active under Network connections

If they are - then you are possibly looking at a hardware problem of some sort as you said you reinstalled the driver.

I tried looking for this utility, but it seems that it's not compatible with my model.
Is there any other way to know whether the devices are active or not?

    About bernd75:
Which setting would be giving a problem?
    thanks

At least this tool isn't available for FZ 180.
I was thinking that the problem might be caused by a disabled service or a modified entry on the registry?

    Theoretically possible...
Have you tried other LAN networks? Other cables...?

I've done that already. A friend of mine is telling me that the network adapter might not be working because of a hardware issue :( Maybe the card is not working because of a electricity burning or something.

I somehow suspect you are looking at faulty hardware here....

    Has it worked before?
    If yes:
What has happened since it stopped working?

(It can be nothing - electric devices will just break at some point....)

It worked before I configured to work for a WLAN on my office. ;(

I'll talk to my network administrator, I was thinking it could be a problem related to a network policy or something...

And your friend would know that how??? When you connect the cable to the laptop, what device is at the other end of that cable, a router, a switch, a cable modem, etc? Are their any signal lights on that device to indicate that the other device is seeing your FZ180?

Well, I'm currently connected to a switch. There are no lights blinking on the device nor on my house's DSL modem. I think the problem wouldn't fix without a hardware diagnosis

Well, I finally solved this issue. I brought my laptop to a technical workshop. They told me that one of my adaper's pin is no longer working. I finally bought a USB ethernet adapter.

I'll say it again...Poor laptop

    bye bye
