    It can't be done!!!!

I spent a good few hours yesterday doing this and I manage to slipstream XP with the SATA drivers for the Sony Vaio FZ18L and successfully install XP on it.

I was then able to pretty much get everything running except the nvidia 8400M GT graphics card and the sound card.

I spent a lot of time searching for nvidia drivers but everyone I tried failed to work.

Obviously the graphics card driver is pretty crucial so I at about midnight i finally admitted defeat and reinstalled vista. The one plus point was I was at least able to remove the stupid restore partition and have a complete 160GB hard drive all in a single partition.

So as much as it pains me to say it i think it is going to be impossible to install Windows XP on the Sony Vaio FZ18L unless Sony release a nvidia 8400M GT driver for XP...

Of course I would love to be corrected on this....

Go to the top of the page here and in the search box type "FZ XP" without the quotes. You will find the information you are looking for. Other folks HAVE been able to deal with the video and audio issues (even getting the speakers to shut off when using headphones). But they have not, as far as I know, gotten the function keys or power management to work.
