Does anyone else have the 'crashing ocean waves' described in this article?

    http://vaio-g.blogspot.com/

My Vaio FZ190 CTO was shipped today with 2.2ghz processor, 2 gigs ram, 120 gb HD, 8400GT. I got it out of the box and turned it on and immediately noticed what sounds like the fan going from medium to high and back every half second. Sounds like...well, ocean waves. Along with a high-pitched noise that comes on and won't quit. Does anyone else have these problems? Is there any way to fix it other than sending it back? I've already called Sony and am shipping it back to them, but I have to wait 16 days to get my money back+then place another order and I need to have the laptop by July 15. I'm pretty pissed. How did something like this get by quality control?

    .

I had the same problem (high pitch noise) and returned it back after a repair process by sony, but they told it is an unsolved issue. Their tech support is pretty much useless.

Some say that RM clock solves the problem. But I don't want to use any thrid party software to solve probs in a brand new $1400+ notebook. Sony takes too long to respond to customer issues.

Too late, I already sent mine back :(. New one supposed to ship on the 9th. If it has this glitch again I'm sending it right back and never buying from them again.

Scuderia, RM clock is a cpu monitoring utitlity software. Visit
www.rightmark.org for more information. people say that changing some settings in that utility mutes the high pitch noise. I don't think so.

ATP, You should be lucky if ur new one doesn't have that sound. Almost every new notebook comes preloaded (for free) with that high pitch noise. It seems to be a design specification of sony vaio FZ. Sony tech support told me that the noise is well within the design specification of the FZ notebook.

Anyway good luck for ur new sony.

As I already wrote in the FZ Owner's Thread, it would help to know how loud the sounds get that people complain about. I find my Vaio FZ pretty quiet, quieter than any other computers I had. Yes, the fan changes speed quickly, but it also calms down again. Since the notebook does not appear to overheat, the fan seems to be doing its job. I think I have pretty good ears, but only if I put my head directly over the keyboard can I hear a slightly high note. So, how badly did people get annoyed with their "noisy" FZs and how loud did they get? I for my part do not think that my FZ is in bad shape at all and as long as I do not have reason to believe that it is going to suffer any real damage, I feel little inclined shipping it back to Sony. Had I not read the complaints before, I would likely not have noticed at all.
For those of you who complained about the noise issue, how bad was it and from what distance could you hear it. I had no trouble sleeping peacefully 4 feet away from my FZ, while it defragmented its harddrive and I am usually quite noise sensitive.

I heard the sound from a normal distance, that is when you work with your notebook in a table. Also the noise is not loud. It's like a humming in the ears.
It was quiet irritating at first but then I got used to it. I returned mine back anyway because some said they didn't hear that sound.

Definitely you can't hear that sound from 4 feet. That sound varies by plugging in/ removing the ac adapter. It actually increased if I plugged in my power cord.
