    Hi,

I am getting a new laptop to replace my broken SZ. This one is an improvement in all respects except hard drive speed, (4200rpm instead of 5400).

The thing that's really getting to me is that its coming with a Maya Hayuk style painted cover. Any one know if I can get replacement covers or if I can paint it, etc?

In that case why don't you get an FZ without the art? Their cheaper, and you won't have to worry about buying anything to cover it up.

I don't have a choice... its a free replacement from sony over my sz220

and in Canada there aren't as many FZ series available as there are in the US. I would prefer to replace with another SZ, but the rep claims that there are no models in current production. While the website lists the sz680 he said he couldn't get it.

I guess overall it's an upgrade, and it is FREE, but as I'm not too keen on the graffic art, which is painted on, I would prefer to cover it with something more normal.

Do they have those slip on plastic skins for the laptops that you find for ipods?

How come you dont have a choice? If Sony is replacing your SZ with a free FZ, dont let them try to get you for cheap. This I think is common for most companies...try to get their customer cheap if they can. You should ask for an SZ. The SZ680 is a customizable model (CTO) but you should ask for like the SZ670 or SZ691 which I think are both still shown on Sony's website. Or even ask for a SZ640. You should not have to get a different model just because its free. Besides, even though the FZ is an amazing laptop and entertainment laptop, I'm sure you bought your previous SZ for mobility, which the current SZ's do very well...plus you'll get about 6 hours battery life with an SZ compared to 3.5 with a FZ.

Do the right thing and ask for a SZ.

    Good luck.
