All my previous laptops have had Synaptics touchpad and personally I preferred it, as it offered a lot more options and pressure sensitivity. From what I've seen on the Vaio's Alps touchpad, it appears a lot more basic.

My question however is, does the Alps touchpad have a way of tapping and dragging in such a way that when you drag something to the edge of the touchpad, it keeps dragging? At the moment I can tap and drag, but when I reach the end of the touchpad, it jus stops, so I can't drag further.

Another question - Synaptics had a beautiful feature called coasting if I remember rightly, when you just flick the scrolling area of the touchpad quickly and the page will continue to scroll even when u move your finger. Can this be done on the Alps touchpad?

    Thanks.

When you use the side of the touchpad to scroll through a document/webpage/list etc, on the Synaptics touchpad I was able to, for example, flick my finger quickly downwards, and the page would keep scrolling automatically. The speed of the scrolling would depend on how fast I flicked my finger.

    My FZ290 has a configurable drag-lock setting.
