Hi, I read a lot about the new feature called "fast boot" that make boot process nearly twice as fast as the standard boot.
I'd like to know if this is a hardware feature (or something implemented in bios to make the os recognize faster all the peripherals) or it's a software optimization by sony that works only with the "sony branded" windows 7?
Put it like that: If I already have a retail version of windows 7 dvd and I install it on a vaio sb after formatting the hard drive will I benefit of the speed increase in boot process?

I believe sony's fast boot feature is based on the OS SPLASHTOP.
It is basically a different OS from Windows 7...
I think I've read somewhere that SPLASHTOP loads only the important kernals of linux, and allows the users to browse the web...
P.S.
Splashtop can be installed on any laptop/pc...

treeco13 is right. It's the "web" button found in the middle of the "assist" and "VAIO" button. Long press it when your system is shut down and it'll pop up a web browser (you'll have to set up wi-fi first though).

Sorry!!!
My mistake...
I believe the fast boot feature allows a fast BIOS boot. I'm not sure of other effects.
YouTube - VAIO S(SB)???? ????????Quick Boot?
If you see the Japanese video, (the right laptop) you can tell that the BIOS loads very quickly...
I doubt that it will decrease boot time by 50%...
MAYBE it can be achieved with the SSD option which is super pricey..
(The SB laptop in the video had SSD, while the left laptop had an HDD)
