Fellow US Sony owners, could you help me out please?

    Hello :)

I'm trying to get part number for the heat-sink in VGN-Z with C2D T9600 CPU. I was trying to contact Sony and parts dealers through email, but was always told I need to call Sony Parts directly. I was trying so for last few days and today I finally reached some representative and when it already looked like he'll be able to find something, the call was cut for some reason (the cost of this call was around $65 btw).

What I want to ask...is there anyone who would call Sony for me? The number is (800) 488-7669, so I believe it's free for ppl in US.

Both Sony Europe and Sony Japan don't sell any parts.

When he's asking about the model number, you can say mine (VGN-Z90US)...the rep found a blank sheet with only info - that it's the Japanese model. So I explained to him, that VGN-Z series in the whole World used just two types of heat-sink - common one for P series CPU and one for T series CPU. He was trying to search through all available parts for VGN-Z to find if they have two kinds of heat-sink when my call was cut.

I need part number for the fan, pipes and sheet (I'm not sure if it's sold separately, or it's one item). Here's picture for better understanding (it's from the official VGN-Z Series Disassembly & Assembly Guide, so they should know about that two types of heat-sink in Sony Parts).

Any help would be much appreciated :)

You paid a heavy price for that call.
I always buy an international calling card when i want to call overseas. The card costs about £5 and you can use them to call toll free numbers but you pay the standard rate.
I get the card i use online. I have also used the card to call sony in the US and spent a long time on the phone and had a lot of credit left.

I don't know where you are but i'm sure that you should be able to get something similar where you are.

Thank you. I will surely do it that way next time. I wouldn't mind the price if the call would be successful, but as I was cut for no reason, it made me quite unhappy that I spend not just money but also my effort for nothing. I'm in Czech rep right now btw.

Well firstly I wanted to say that I already checked there and send them many emails with no result really. But as you send the link again I sat down and checked all available parts for Z series one by one and found something in one part description, what moved me a bit forward to my goal - so thank you :)

So English speaking people who are still checking this thread - could you please help me understand well - I found this heatsink. Heatsink means only the metal part (what I call heat-pipes) without fan? As it looks like they have three kinds of heat-sink for our Z (just this one has the T line description), but just one fan.

Also interesting thing is, when I google for this part number, only sparepartswarehouse.com site comes out...

Thank you, yes, that would be probably my next step. I'm just not used to to spend time preparing my call to somewhere...when I need it - I call :)

I have only ever heard of "heat sink" referring solely to the radiator fins used to increase the surface area to disperse heat across. I would assume that it does NOT include a fan unless it specifically says that it does. Of course, this listing includes "ASSY" which stands for "assembly." Now, that probably means it includes any brackets and screws needed, but might mean that it also includes a fan (though I doubt it). If it was me, I'd assume the minimum (just the heat sink) in the absence of proof otherwise.

The problem is the listing doesn't provide any description at all (or picture), which makes it total guesswork figuring out what's included in what you're buying...not a very comforting position to be in when you're spending $80. :(

Exactly :( But thank you for the answer :) I was not sure what the ASSY means, but in this way it at least looks like the sheet will be included :D

I also thought that heat-sink is just that radiator fins, but as there's no such thing in cooling system of the Z, I guess they mean that heat-pipes. Anyway I already sent them email, so I'll see what they can do for me.

I feel it's quite expensive even for Sony if it's without the fan, but who knows.

Thank you one more time for clarifying :)
