One question about power supply for US owners: is it possible to use power cord in Europe as well (do you have adapter bundled) or only for US. My SZ version came with adapter so it could be used both in US/Europe, pretty neat, especially if you travel overseas.

A professional review in English just popped up on Laptop MAG =)
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/sony-vaio-z-series-vgn-z530n.aspx?page=1
Well they somehow managed to take photos of the FW instead of the Z, but the rest fits =) -
Exactly what I thought.

InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
-
"We managed 5 hours and 15 minutes on the Optimized power plan and Stamina setting with WiFi on and screen brightness set to 65%. For a notebook this powerful, that's very impressive, and it's significantly better than the current Vaio SZ notebooks"
Nice. -
read the review from laptopmag...
"...which is a good thing, since the Z takes its sweet time..."
is the startup time for the Z really that slow??? -
InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
I'm getting over 6 hours with all unused hardware turned off, brightness approx 40%, battery optimized, silent mode, etc. I'm *very* happy with the battery life. It's about double what my Tosh can manage, which is much heavier.
Mine's slow actually, but I had put it down to Vista (this is my first machine with Vista). I don't know if the build/bloatware is to blame, as once you're in Windows it seems pretty nippy. I'm tempted to put XP SP3 on but I want to give Vista a fair chance before I bin it.
-
What specs did you choose Infy?
-
anyone can help me??
-
9300M GS is better than 8400M GS.
Can it run games well? it depends on what you call well. The HD3470 in SR and Lenovo U330/T400 is faster.
For benchmarks results have a look at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html -
For me,play fifa08 with medium settings, no lag during the game,,its seems gd in my way...i just want to play the simple game such as fifa, winning and cs......etc..
HOW about it compare with geforce 6500..which one is better? -
I'm not gamer anymore as well, mainly because of lack of time....but what I would really like to try is new GTA iV, which should come out on October. Does anyone know, if it'll be with Z possible? I didn't find what specs it'll need or which engine it uses....
-
Thanks for answer....so if I'll be lucky and they'll use the engine well, there's chance it'll be playable on low resolution with low setting...looks like I'll recall San Andreas instead ,)

Here are two new reviews of the Sony Vaio Z ... in each case of lower line model:

Engadget Review of the Top Z. -
You were late
-
And as usual...the engadget review really sucks period. No details to back anything up, no tests run, etc, etc, etc. IMO the only good thing about engadget is decent up to date tech news, otherwise not much is great from them.
-
it's never too late, phil.
but really this review is more than subjective. best reviews in my opinion are coming from notebookcheck and nbr of course.
-
The engadget review is extremely critical of the Vaio Z. I didn't really think it was a very balanced review at all. They do provide some nice photos, though...
-
The most influential review will be by Cisco Chang of PCMagazine.
-
Will NotebookReview review this notebook?
-
Notebookjournal and Notebookcheck are the best in my opinion. Somehow the Germans seem to be the best in the world when it comes to testing stuff. Same goes for Video equipment.
I never get why other sites don't measure brightness, contrast and blacklevels. -
yeah, thats true. perhaps they try to be un-biased as possible. i don't know, i think it is the good ol' German thoroughness.
-
Yes indeed. Deutsche Grundligkeit or something like that
-
I saw this review on pc pro today i haven't seen it posted before or maybe it was and i missed it.
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/225537/sony-vaio-vgnz11wnb.html
Some sites like pc mag, trusted reviews and notebook check seem quite late with their reviews of the Z. -
Is it the 250 GB 5400 rpm so bad as they say here?
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/225537/sony-vaio-vgnz11wnb.html -
i guess the people in Europe should order through conics or dynamism =\
-
It's a mediocre performer.
I think they are spot on with the comment:
This is what I wrote yesterday:
Finally a real Vaio Z review
