:confused2: I'm having problems with enrolling my fingerprints to my laptop ... everytime I run through the tutorial, it says that the sample is a bad one - I start at the 1st knuckle on my finger then gently slide down, I've tried it every freakin' which way and it still won't accept it - jst keep getting the damn 'bad sample' message for all 4 samples

    Anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

sounds perverse, but maybe you are sliding your finger to fast. I usually get good reads if the movement from 1st knuckle to finger tip is about 1 second.

thx ETS but  I've tried and tried ... even @ 3 secs per finger ... i've tried all fingers but still no luck? What are the chances of a faulty fingerprint sensor? Also, is their a protective film/plastic on the actual sensor (before I start making scratches on the surface, by digging at it)?

Nope, there isn't a protective plastic layer on the sensor. I suggest you run the "Fingerprint sensor" utility in Control Panel and try swipe your finger the way you do before and see the result image. This way you will see what the sensor actually see. If you're not sure about image you see (good/bad sample), post it here and I'll help you figure out.

    Hope this help,
    Kan

 i'm a big numbnut or maybe its the tutorial - they should really tell/illustrate to the user to press down on the sensor cos the impression i got was to be gentle but catch the whole finger in one swift @#@%#$^ action!! so thanks a bunch null84!

thanks to kanthai ... i never knew that utility was in control panel (thanks to the secretive nature of vista) ... wasn't too sure what to do when i saw an empty small square on the 2nd tab but i got it :D

i'm over the moon ... fingerprints are all enrolled and the new functions that have jst opened up are making my head bubble with happiness

rep. points to the both of u :D
