Anybody update to the latest FireFox (1.5.0.2) and now the fingerprint reader doesn't work? What's this **** about "browser too new" anyway?!Am I stuck waiting for Sony to put out another update to the fingerprint reader?
-
If it were IE, would you be complaining about M$?
Since it is FF, is must be a Sony problem?
I don't know how long it would take for an update to resolve this compatibility. It seems the last one was available right away. I would guess the developers of the "protector suite" will be on it. I don't know if that would be Sony or not, but with the growing popularity of FF, I doubt it will take too long... -
There's a new version of Protector Suite available that fixes this. Just go to the Sony PC support site, and search for the upgraded drivers for your system. I'm using the latest Firefox with no problems...
Javier
EDIT: Oops! I didn't realize there was a brand-new incremental update to Firefox... I disable the 'update automatically' feature, so I'm glad you pointed this out. I won't be downloading THAT update until Sony updates the Protector suite! -
I updated Firefox to 1.5.0.2.
The protector thingy detected the new web browser and installed the plugin for it.
unfortunately, it doesn't work anymore.
When i go to a web page and slide my finger, it asks me if i want to register, even though the page has already been registered.
If i try to register again, i'll get an error. -
what does protector suite do?
-
It's the software side of the fingerprint reader on the SZ. It prompts you to register user accounts and web pages that are password protected, and enters them for you when you run your finger through the fingerprint reader.

Ok I guess you guys confirmed what I feared - we have to wait for Sony. If you go to the Upek site (they make the protector suite) they say the version for Sony notebooks is specific and you can only get it from Sony. ( http://www.upek.com/support/dl_strip_sony.asp) It's so weird the Sony wouldn't adhere to a standard
I'm turning off auto update on FF as we speak... -
This is mainly a license problem.
Just like you can't download the Protector Suite from Toshiba either.
However, I downloaded the drivers from the upek website, and it worked with the sony -
so you fixed this problem already just by dl'ing the upek drivers? -
No I didn't
for some reasons the finger print drivers stopped working, so I use a different drivers from utek web site -
Is this issue still not resolved? Firefox 1.5.0.3 has now been released. I went to the Sony site and it looks like they have not updated the Protector Suite PasswordBank since Feb 2, when Firefox 1.5.0.1. came out. I downloaded 1.5.0.1 from: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.1/win32/en-US/
Do we have to use this old version of Firefox to be compatible? -
i accidentally updated to the newest version today. Now my protector suite doesnt work.
-
After a long time of frustration I finally found the way to make firefox 1.5.0.2 and 1.5.0.3 work with the Sony SZ / Protector Suite QL :
The Protector Suite uses the registry to detect the browser version...
Make sure your browser is not running.
Run "regedit", search for "1.5.0.3", and start replacing it by "1.5.0".
At some point you'll hit the relevant entry, and then a popup will jump saying that the protector suite has detected the browser. Choose to install the module, and voila, works like a charm... -
it works!
EDIT: I found out that after you get protect suite working again you can go ahead and rename the folder back to 1.5.0.3 -
-
Where is the registry entry ?
I tried a search of 1.5.0.3 in regedit and came up with nothing... -
hey guess what. turns out the "too new error" is an error its self. Even though to app says firefox is too new. It will stil work.
-
-
Yeah you missing my previous post.
-
NVM...I went to the settings option on the Protector Suite and had to check the box that said enable for use with Firefox. Works now.
-
Did the same... working now.
Thanks, Dino ! -
It seems that there's no need to search in the registry for Firefox 1.5.0.3. It is actually reporting 1.5 in the registry.
To make it work with Protector Suite, I closed Firefox, went into the settings (press Shift while swaping your finger on the sensor). Password Bank, uncheck Firefox 1.5. Press OK
Go again in the Protector Suite settings -> Password Bank, check Firefox 1.5 -> OK
Now restart Firefox, it works.

Awesome! anon100, you have saved my life; your registry hack worked perfect. The only thing I would add is when you do the search for "1.5.3" (or whatever FF updates to) just "look at" "keys" and rename what you find to 1.5.0. I renamed all but the one under uninstall info.
