Hi there, just a quick question. I have a brand new F22 Series VAIO, but for some reason when I load up Firefox, it hangs on a white screen for about 5 seconds before fully loading up, whereas my old FW loaded it up instantly. Is there some kind of hardware incompatibility going on or what? I'm really confused.

Do you have the latest drivers? Some of us in the F21 gang had this issue because of some quirks with the older drivers not doing hardware acceleration correctly. Nvidia's website has the latest driver for our model.

new FF loads slowly for the first time after every boot. Nothing much to do about it, except wait for FF team to fix it.

Just installed the latest drivers from the Nvidia website (which VAIO update told me it installed already but actually was old drivers), but that still didn't fix the problem unfortunately.

And yeah jeremyshaw, I was reading that alot of people have the same problem, but the I'm just puzzled as to why it does it on this laptop but not my old FW! I don't really get it.

Do any other applications load slowly, like internet explorer or chrome?

Most likely due to lack of ram, and the dual core CPU?

I'm an IE user so I can't really say I've run into this. Have you tried switching on (or off) hardware acceleration on Firefox to see if this is any part of the issue?

The F22 comes with a quad-core i7 only (at least in the US), and 4 GB of ram as standard? It's not like we're talking about bleeding-edge games here...we're talking about a web browser choking when it opens! That shouldn't be happening if you had a $450 machine with an i3, not to mention the F22's hardware.

Disabling hardware acceleration fixed it up perfectly, thanks eehpeehthreeh! Now, will there be any significant disadvantages to leaving hardware acceleration turned off? When is it even needed within Firefox?

Try FF 7.0 beta 6, it's way faster than the sluggish 6.0.2. FF 6.0 shouldn't hang at start up in your hardware though.

Ok, I'll try that out as well, thanks coolguy! And thank you everyone else as well, I'm happy it's not hanging on a white screen for 5 seconds at a time hahaha.

I do have one more question while we're here. On some programs there tends to be a few graphical glitches, like just whited out rectangular blocks at random places on the screen. So far I've only noticed it in iTunes and the Windows Photo Viewer, but it could be happening elsewhere as well. Is there any reason for these? Maybe because the screen resolution is so high and the program isn't used to it?

1080p screens aren't THAT rare ;) Unfortunately, I don't know what the culprit would be, but screen resolution isn't it.

If that were the case, my Dell U2711 at 2560x1440 would freak out my desktop every time

Yeah it's really strange. The only thing I could see it possibly being (and I'm not super super tech savvy by the way) is the video drivers or something conflicting with them... But I've got the latest drivers from Nvidia, and I've not installed anything other than what VAIO Update has told me to! I don't get it!

Except such rare problems like drivers etc I still remind you that unless you use SSD you still have old spinned hard drive even if you call it new or just-bought.
It can be just defragmentation problem.

Even on my SSD, FF loads slowly in comparison to IE.
