I've got my TZ90 and it's amazing. Props to Pricejapan for delivering it to Amsterdam in 8 (!) days.

I already saw it in shops and on many pictures, but damn what is this baby beautiful. unbelievable. This is the best looking laptop I've ever seen. Pictures don't do it justice.

And then the screen, many people told me it was very good, but again unbelievable. I've never seen any screen come close to the colours, so clear and vibrant.

I already knew it would be full of bloatware, it's even more than i expected. This PC has more software on it then I would have a fter 3 years of using it without ever deleting a program. And because of this it's slow, very slow! even with SSD.

No I would really like some advice!
I want to install english XP. so I copied the XP install files to the D: hdd, and started setup.exe. Setup starts but 'install XP' is not available as an option.

And since I have no DVD drive I don't know how to install XP.

    Any ideas?

My first impression is that the screensize serves me fine. It seems very broad (wich i like) in 16:9 aspectratio.

In 1 or 2 day I can give you a more accurate opinion. I usually have a 12inch screen with me on the road, so it will be nice to compare.

I've propably solved it by using an old external CD drive.

Have you enabled the BIOS option to boot from external USB devices. As far as I remember this option was disabled in the BIOS of my TZ. And perhaps you will have to change the boot order in the BIOS as well (USB external device at first position or at least before internal HDD).

To enter the BIOS press F2 before or when these 2 logos (Vaio & Phoenix) appear.

Yes I found that one already, mine was disabled aswell, so I have enabled it.

It does boot from my harddrive. But then it says "NLTDR missing. press ctrl-alt-del"

Booting from my USB cd-rom does not seem to work at all.

    Anymore suggestions more than welcome!

Make an ISO, mount it in Windows and start your installation from there?

Yes I have an XP iso.

I used Magic ISO to 'unzip' it to the harddrive.

Is mounting the official word for unzipping?

I started installation from there and then I get this error:

Unzipping extracts the files. Mounting "mounts" it on a virtual CD/DVD drive.

    I use Daemon Tools: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/.

It's a fairly straight forward process, but let me know if you have any issues. I am head off very soon though.

Ok. I have a mounting program called Magic Iso Virtual CD/DVD manager 9it was already on my pc). I think this must be good.

So do I install this program on the TZ?

Or can I install it on another PC, and then mount it to the external harddrive?

    thanks for helping bytheway.

Ok now I get the priciple of mounting. I just tried it on the TZ.

But when I start the virtual CD Install XP is not an option, because XP cannot be installed from Vista.

I need to do a clean install booting from my external harddrive.

Any advice? please tell me. Japanese Vista is starting to annoy me!

    lol.are you serious?

I loved the fact that I could buy this one without DVD!

Edit: but yeah an external DVD or CD-rom player would be great.

I'll continue with a more accurate description of the problem here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2331987#post2331987

A new external dvd is around $60 now, certainly you can afford one considering how much you just spent on your tz.

why don't u buy one, install xp and then return it if you are that cheap.

    Now, now, play nice! ;)

Phil, it's virtually impossible to do anything without an external DVD drive, so my sense is that you'll have to bite the bullet and get one. I'm not sure that you can score a 60 euro DVD drive in Holland, but they do come in handy for software installs, so it will pay for itself.

I'm surprised you ordered it from PJ, but I guess Conics would have been no better option for you since you need a Nederlandse Vista. :D

I like to spend money on something i really use.

To spend 60$ on a dvd player i need once is a waist of money imo.

I now got some tips on how to make a partition bootable on my ext HD.

    thanks for the advice.

I´m hoping you are wrong! :)

At the time I was ordering, Conics did not reply to my emails, PJ replied within hours on every email i sent. So I went with PJ´s.

Shame on you! ;) I will not be installing Vista on this beautiful computer. That would be like throwing diesel in a brand new ferrari. :)
