    For the last couple years slight color wash out on my fresh installed xp/vista vaio's was driving me crazy.

    There is a setting in Vaio Power Management, "LCD Power-saving". If you are running you vaio on battery and power-saving is set to On, you may (or may not) notice colors slowly wash out. (especially if you have a dark background)

    Turn it off to get full possible contrast.

    If you don't have this option and you did a fresh install it's probably On by default.

    Open c:\program files\sony\VAIO Power Management\Data\Data.ini

    find LCD Power-saving and change

    Code:
    [Function6]
    ; LCD Power-saving
    [B]Enable=0[/B]
    Name=FunctionName6
    ACCount=1
    ACLabel0=Function6Label0
    ....

    to

    Code:
    [Function6]
    ; LCD Power-saving
    [B]Enable=1[/B]
    Name=FunctionName6
    ACCount=1
    ACLabel0=Function6Label0
    ....

    Than go to the Vaio Power Management and turn it off. Tested on T25/TX4/TZ17/UX180/UX280/UX390 & XP/Vista.

    You can test it by selecting a dark wallpaper and unplugging your notebook. (takes 5-10 seconds, selecting an icon on desktop and closely watching it might help)

    Hard to say.. Takes ~2-3 mins out of 6:23 hours of battery life (according to vista)

    Being a designer, I really prefer contrast over battery.

    I enabled the LCD-Powersaving function, then went to my power managment profile switched to the Vaio Power management tab and saw the LCD-Poersaving option. It was set to off for AC power and On for battery. When I turned it off for battery and applied it and waited 15-20 seconds on battery power and saw no visible change in the display.

    I am running on an FZ190 with xbrite display with the Nvidia card, though. Would that make a difference?

    It is difficult to see. The difference is less when a page with white background is open.

    Just checked my sisters fs2 (nvidia) and the color/contrast change is there, am I the only one :confused:

    All T/TX/TZ/UX/FS have Xbrite.
