I am using the Dell driver. It gives you multi gesture which I find convenient. However, I cannot get the horizontal scroll to work. But the veritical twirl is worth all the trouble.

link to where you got the drivers?

As I said before, the horizontal scroll does not work for me. -
I dont care much for horizontal scroll as i use vertical more. thanks
-
I actually did a google search and installed the latest ALPS drivers from Toshiba R600(newer than the Dell drivers), and I find it better than the Sony with way more customization. Not sure how it is vs the Dell version. It just works better imo.

Offtopic - This driver taught the touchpad in my TZ a host of new tricks. Much appreciated!
-
got 2 TT last month, and found this thread.
TT25GN bought in Singapore, TT35GN bought in Indonesia. Both have some problem, touchpad slow and unresponsive! -
The TZ touchpad is very responsive and fast. -
Hi folks, guess we share the same problem.
I bought a TT260Y one week ago and it came w/ touchpad issues: poor response, missed at least 50% of clicks, almost regretted buying the notebook...
However, after installing various drivers I found one that seems to fix the problem. Have used it for a couple of days now and must say the difference is brutal. For those interested, it is the ALPS touchpad driver released for Acer notebooks in March this year. This is the link to download for Vista 64 users:
http://www.soft-go.com/download_dri...chpad-Driver-7.5.2021.101-for-Vista_3788.html
Hope this is helpful.
PS: Fixed touchpad response BUT now touchpad is crashing. By crash I mean all of sudden the cursor completely loses movement and if try to move, the notebook starts "typing" a bunch of random keys such as "jklhiouythrkenabvmrimnvhrueanvmhrjaiomen"... and won't stop until I restart the PC or hibernate/switch on. Funny that I saw this happen with other ALPS drivers while testing and couldn't find the reason why. Maybe a Vista problem? If anyone has ideas, please let me know. -
Touchpad problem here in Greece also ... model TT21WN ... tried everything ... hardware issue ... touchpad is junk ... I own a TZ also which works like a dream ... SONY must deal with this ... need an synaptics touchpad ...
-
Agrez, were you able to solve the problem with the latest Alps driver generating keystrokes from time to time?
I also downloaded and isntalled the latest Alps driver I could find (v.7.5.2021.101) which dramatically improved the response, but I experienced the same problem... from time to time the mouse cursor dies and any touchpad activity will generate a stream of keystrokes. Going to standby and resuming solves the problem but it is very annoying. Were you able to solve this problem? -
by the way, just to update everybody on my situation:
My TT190 had an almost unusable trackpad. There was a certain region of the touchpad which had incorrect response, and by drawing lines in paint you could see it clearly. I made a video of my testing and posted it here: video. Drawing similar lines on any of my other notebooks with trackpads resulting in perfect lines, but on the sony you can see the result in the video.
I sent the notebook to sony service, who changed the trackpad and sent it back to me. But the new trackpad had almost the same problem! It was certainly a different trackpad because the pattern of the problem was different (and it was slightly better) but it was still poor. I sent it back to them again and insisted that they change it again which they did.
The third trackpad was MUCH better, but I still do notice one specific spot on the trackpad which still generates an unpredictable response and makes the trackpad worse the the trackpads on my other notebooks.
This is certainly not what I expected from one of the most expensive notebooks on the market. It shows that Sony and Alps have a serious quality control problem.

Great video "lewinr" ... tried the same thing on my tt and guess what ... SPIKES !!! Just like yours ... the thing is useless ... also thx for the info about sony not being able to fix the problem ... no need to miss using my laptop for days just for nothing ... WE NEED A SYNAPTICS REPLACEMENT PART !!!
-
I would actually pay for a synaptics touchpad replacement on my vaio if SONY would cover the replacement process ... the TZ (which I also own) has a dreamy touchpad ... kinda breaks my heart having to deal with such an issue on my TT21WN ... spoils all the "fun" ...
-
The moment my warranty period is over "I'm going digging" ... of course I'm not going to buy the "warranty extension" ... no need if sony can't fix anything right ...
-
Well I also tried the latest acer alps 7.5.2021.101 drivers ... I can verify the problem is not fixed but the situation is surely better (better response / minimal movement variations= much smaller spikes on Rons example) ... still there is a major driver bug, mostly when trying to use the touchpad keys along with moving fingers on the touchpad area ... the cursor freezes and you get a "random keystroke stream" like Ron (lewinr) refers on his posting ... you need to press the power button to get in and out of stand by to get to a normal working windows enviroment again ...
-
Also there is no drr5bghbyr5tvvvbbhhbbbbbnhhhnrrrfr55tffftrrr555r55rfr555r5rtf3bbbhbhhyhbb5 fttbbbhbhhyhbb5 3tbbbhbhhyhbb5 3xw ( <-- Yeap ... there goes the keystroke stream again !!! ... Into Stand by mode and out again ) ............. There is no menu to adjust touchpad properties with this driver ... still best responce I've seen so far ... much like a normal touchpad ... but if this bug can't be fixed I'm gonna have to go back to another driver ...
-
somebody else mentioned the Toshiba R600 driver and I downloaded it (from the toshiba site) and tried it. Version is 7.2.303.104. Sorry, no link, but you will find it if you select downloads for the first model of R600 as I remember.
It works well and contains all the same features of 7.5. More important, it contains a "sensitivity" setting that I even did not see in the 7.5 driver.
And it does not have the "keystroke stream" problem in 7.5. So I recommend using it. -
one more note is that I strongly recommend uninstalling your previous drivers before installing a new version (or earlier version). I encountered some problems and tha reslved it. I found that to do it reliability I had to be logged in as the local administrator on the notebook.
-
Hi lewinr, sadly I haven't been able to address the "keystroke stream" problem. I even though it could be specific to my Vaio, but now I see that you and nico reported the same issues.
As for Toshiba drivers, guess I tried some and they crashed... but will give it another shot.
If I find anything else I will post here. -
Yeah, thx "Lewinr" ... here is a link of the R600 (7.2.303.104) drivers ... http://notebook.driversdown.com/drivers.asp?ID=143922&brNum=3&show=0 ... and these are some of the earlier drivers I tested to try to fix the touchpad problem ... I'm sorry to say that these are a nogo also ... the is no comparison between these and the 7.5 version ... these (R600) are the drivers I was using as I replicated and verified your "spikes test" ... sure the R600 are the best bug free drivers I've used so far but the responce time in not even close to the acer 7.5 version (which is almost perfect ... and by perfect I just mean a normal working touchpad, tnx SONY) ...
-
And "Agrez" (also everyone who's trying to find the best driver) ... follow lewinr's advise regarding installing drivers and keep on trying to install till they get there ... I've installed and tested every ALPS driver, I managed to find on the net, with only but minor issues (like having to restart many times or maybe removing some installation files from within the windows\inf forder which were messing up my driver installations) ...
If I were SONY ... I would get my hands on those acer 7.5 Alps drivers and get them fully compatible to the Vaio TT laptops ASAP !!! These drivers may be the ones that do the TRICK !!! PICK UP THE PACE SONY !!! -
Nico and Lewinr,
Have tested another 20+ drivers and am afraid that Acer is the only one near perfection. Right now I am using a release by Lenovo which seems slightly better than the Toshiba R600, but still not comparable to Acer since touchpad is still "sticky".
I'm considering to downgrade Windows Vista to XP and install Acer drivers... maybe the last alternative left. Was actually curious: which OS were you running when reported the "keystroke stream"? -
I am running XP.
By the way, I do not believe that the main problem with the touchpad is the driver, or that the 7.5 driver can somehow magically solve the problem. I am sure it is a hardware problem with the touchpad membrane, and that the better/newer drivers only make it more tolerable. -
I'm on windows vista 32 (original system setup) ...
Like Agrez says ... near perfection ... sth I can live with ... I thing the 7.5 acer driver somehow disables the extra features of the touchpad (extra buttons/fancy scrolling) so the driver provides better response not having to deal with such things ... sth the previous drivers fail to do (even though you can cancel the features the previous drivers don't do the trick the right way) ...
I can live with no extra features and just a normal touchpad. Surely prefer it to missing my laptop for many days without being 100% sure it's gonna be fixed. I think in Greece you have to get it shipped (DHL picks it up from your address) to the european service center or sth to have it serviced. Like I did with my TZ, on the camera/cable recall issue. So it's a rather big deal since I won't be able to test it till I get it back ... and if the problem still exists after that???
I mentioned that I would pay for a synaptics touchpad replacement if sony would cover the replacement process. But I can do fine with a bug free version of the Acer 7.5 alps driver ...
Agrez ... you do feel the dif on the 7.5 driver, right? ... I do ... 100% !!!
Hope SONY does sth good for us, SOON ... -
-
No need to send it in if I'm not 100% sure it's gonna come back fixed (many have tried more than 2 or 3 times without success so...) ... still, I'd like to have a bug free acer 7.5 alps driver tested first ... like I said ... I can live with that ...
Agrez ... you do feel the dif on the 7.5 right? ... I'm sure I do ...
Thinking of doing a video to show the responsiveness of the touchpad ... -
-
Hey " lewinr" ... are you considering sending it in a third time? ... Do you care to share with us what you told sony about the problem of the laptop? Where you specific about the lack of responsiveness of the touchpad or sth else ...? Tnx, Nico ...
-
It is a huge hassle for me to send it in because I spend most of my time overseas and the unit was bought in the US and there is no international warranty. (Lack of an international warranty is the other reason I will never buy another sony
)
When I sent it the first two times I sent it in the with the video of the problem that I posted earlier in this thread.
I would send it in again if I heard that the problem had been resolved totally and I would have no chance of getting it back again with a poor touchpad. -
Thanks for the quick reply "lewinr" ... like I said ... I would even pay for a synaptics touchpad replacement part... ... in the meantime ... how about an update on those old alps touchpad drivers for our non inexpensive laptops sony (the new 7.5 version would be great!) !!!
-
Hi Nico, apologies for not posting before.
Yes, I agree that the Acer 7.5 driver performs like no other. It is a pity we can't get it working properly. I tried almost everything and the conclusion is simple: all other drivers are crap.
I saw comments about replacing the Alps touchpad with Synaptics. Is that possible at all? To be honest I wouldn't mind paying extra bucks for solving the problem once and for good. Has anyone gone this path yet? Would love to hear comments.
Nico, how about contacting Sony? Maybe sending an e-mail to customer service informing that the most recent Acer drivers actually do the trick... and requesting Sony to make it fully compatible with Vaio notebooks. I know this may sound naive but who knows. -
I don't know agrez ... I'm begining to think the vaio tt is really not a good laptop ... I've noticed that not only the touchpad responds way badly, but the keyboard is also messed up ... the cursor very often jumps back and forth in the text as I type which is also a huge issue, probably worse than the touchpad (I'm sure they are related) .... I think I'll just send it in and not hope too much ... probably gonna sell it to someone else if the problem is not fixed ... the tz which I also own is like a dream compared to the tt ... guess I'll just try another company next time ...
I'm gonna ask (insist really) sony for a synaptics touchpad replacement ... on my money, don't care anymore, I'm tired ...
PS. I'm trying out the "touchfreeze" freeware to maybe "solve" (yeah, right) the keyboard issue ... -
GOOD NEWS!
I think I managed to fix the Acer driver problems!!! I tried some config changes and turns out they worked! My 7.5 driver hasn't crashed not even once in the last 5 days. OK, I agree five days isn't enough to say the fix is permanent, but I'm excited anyway. Touchpad working like wonders now.
Here are the steps - unzip the ALPS driver provided by Acer. The 7.5 version seems to be the best out there, but to be honest all Acer drivers I tested (even earlier versions) deliver a much better response vs any other. Enter the folder. Before hitting setup.exe, go into the folder that corresponds to your system (win32 or win64) and open the Apfiltr.inf file for editing.
Apfiltr.inf is the file that setup.exe uses for loading config parameters that will feed the installation of the touchpad in your PC and the system registry. Now you must "disable" six config entries. Just put a ";" in front of the following HKR lines:
;HKR,,"SetToBTN3_DEV",
;HKR,,"EnableRawMode",
;HKR,,"SP_ReviseBallisticCurve_Enable",
;HKR,,"SP_ReviseBallisticCurve_Pram_1",
;HKR,,"SP_ReviseBallisticCurve_Pram_2",
;HKR,,"SP_ReviseBallisticCurve_Pram_3",
Save the file, close... and install.
Two notes here. First, don't ask me how I narrowed down the choices to these entries. I am no PC expert and it was basically trial and error after comparing the Acer config with a Lenovo driver I found. Second, I never re-isntalled the touchpad drivers (after editing them) via setup.exe. Rather, I went to control panel and did the procedure via the Mouse & update driver settings.
After installing the driver, restart and test. Hopefully it will work on your Vaio just like it did on mine. No more crashing and/or keystroke issues. Good luck and let me know if you have questions.
Best. -
FYI, there are several class action lawsuits related to the touchpad problems many people appear to be having...
Here is a link to one: http://www.abingtonlaw.com/sony-VAIO-touchpad-class-action.html
Don't know how much this will help, but hopefully it will at least get Sony to issue a recall or compensate consumers in some manner. -
Hey there Agrez ... my turn for apologies this time ...
Yep ... I can verify you've done a great job on the drivers issue. Many TNX !!! The modded drivers make the pad work great but still they are not a total fix ...
In any case ... Great job, man ...
PS. I'm still gonna send it in and push for a synaptics touchpad replacement part ... we'll see ... I'll let you know ... -
I upgraded to Windows 7 recently using the Sony/Microsoft Win 7 upgrade plan -
Ok,guys, after struggling for a while with this annoying TT touchpad issue and trying pretty much everything it seems like finally a solution has been discovered: replacing the touchpad with the one from TZ. It can be purchased from sony's online parts store and goes for ~$70. Electronically it fits perfectly, just plug and play. Mechanically...well..a little fitting was required because of the sharper upper corners on TZ touchpad instead of rounded ones on TT...just scrap a little of plastic from the corners from the tochpad opening in the palmrest and it fits nicely. Finally the touchpad work like it supposed to be...like the on on TZ.
Hope it helps. -
Great news "pokaz" ... I guess we would all appreciate a photo or two of the modded TT touchpad ... My tt notebook is still under warranty so I guess I won't be handling the replacement process myself (wouldn't wanna void my warranty) but it's excellent to know that such a process is even possible so I may just go ahead and ask Sony to do it for me (don't care if I have to pay for the tz touchpad part or not). By the way, did you use sth like an X-acto knife or a dremel to do the modding ??
Also "pokaz" ... do you believe it would be possible to mod, maybe grind down the sharp top corner areas of the touchpad replacement pad itself and not mess with the casing of the TT laptop? Surely this would mean a bit smaller usable area but no one would miss it since that area is already gone on the original TT touchpads, anyway. Wouldn't that look better (cleaner) on the final outcome ? -

Many many TNX pokaz !!!
Oh, by the way ... do you think you can provide us just one more photo of the touchpad part you removed ... but from the side of it, so we can all see the thickness of the plastic touch area top ?
If not ... nevermind ... you've already been very helpful. -
I wonder why Sony decided to move to an inferior part...probably cost cutting.
By the way, how did you come up with that part number? I'm looking for a different part, but I have no idea what the number is or how to get it. -
I just stumbled across this post as well when searching for "Vaio TT touchpad" as mine clearly has this issue, too. I am very unhappy. Bought the SSD variant after its price was slashed by ~40% in Germany and had it shipped to North America, only to discover now that it has this hardware issue. I'll contact Sony to ask for a repair.

Sony Alps Driver
This one is from Sony and has multitouch gestures support as well...and my favorite (circular scrolling)... I am using it on my VAIO TT now... a couple of multitouch gestures don't work though. -
Got my TT back from repair now. Fortunately it came with a worldwide warranty so the touchpad was replaced for free, no questions asked. It works perfectly fine now even without any driver fiddling.
-
any of you TT owners with SSDs might be interested in this other thread I've opened: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=450918.
Basically, Samsung is not planning to release any firmware supporting TRIM for the SSDs installed in the TT.
