    Hey Guys,

I had read a few days back that a few of you have fixed the loose battery issue using some tape/cloth... was trying to locate that thread but couldn't find it... If someone could point me to it, that'd be great...

If no such thread exists, just tell me what have you done to fix the loose battery... and where could I get such cloth/tape to fix it (any particular store)?

    Thanks.

I tried tape and found it still loose. i went to the hardware store and bought thin felt dots that have adhesive on them. that worked much better i used about 8 on the bottom of the battery. crazy for a 2400 dollar computer huh. ive got other peices of plastic that arent tight also...

Exactly - sticky felt feet. I only needed three: one medium one cut in half and placed on the left and right sides of the battery, and two large ones for the bottom of the battery compartment.

I found a sheet of felt with adhesive backing at walmart. I put it inside the battery compartment rather than on the battery.

I used that thin foam paper that you're notebook comes wrapped in from the factory.

It's because Sony re-used the batteries for their S-series laptops... which is a good and a bad thing... good because you might find the batteries for a decent price... bad because they don't know how to measure them properly so they fit... kinda sad.

Did the battery in the S-series rattle ?

Did you buy your 120 in Canada ? If so, how is your vid card 256 MB ? Both the 160 and 120 are only available with 128 MB in Canada...

and I love your Tiger/Longhorn avatar icon... is that real or a spoof ?

It is important to make sure the battery is LATCHED on both ends when you put it in. This is especially true when you are working on battery power. The latch doesn't snap closed as expected. Then at a most inopportune time, you jiggle the machine and the machine goes BLANK!!! :(

I used double-sided sticky tape to fix mine. If fits tighly and works like a charm.

This is just such a huge oversight... it boggles the mind !

I don't think it is an oversight. I think it works exactly as it is designed to. One latch is spring loaded, the other locks it in place. There are even markings on the locking side that indicate the locked and unlocked positions.

Personally, i don't see the advantage of one latch requiring the user to explicitly latch it. Especially with every other notebook i have owned, sliding it in was all that was needed.

Yes I bought it in Canada...To my best knowledge its 128mb, though I think when I got it it said 256 so it might be that... not quiet sure yet...

My avatar...what do you mean...was it photoshopped or was it a real photo taken :p?

I agree. A simpler retaining mechanism would have been better. But I don't have a problem with it coming out when it isn't supposed to.

Me neither, but the prospect scares me... especially in the middle of a presentation !

Of course, I'm usually plugged in when I do a presentation, but you never know...

Yeah, well Sony had 256MB on their website in one place and 128 in another... so I called support and told them... I don't know if they've changed it.

Seriously, bad advertising... its really irritating when companies do that.

Yeah, it's funny either way... but I can see Apple having the balls to do it, Longhorn isn't a registered trademark.

Lol I doubt apple made it :D. Yeah I would like to know what the deal is with the FE and SZ GPU's...In Dxdiag its supposed to show less then 1gb ram if the video card is taking 128mb...and its not, I know this because my old HP had an ATI Radeon 9000 IGP which took 128mb from the ram and so appeared in dxdiag. So I suppose the SZ is 128mb dedicated only.
