Both at 1333, I've heard bad words about Crucial, how do you guys think?
I have 8g for both, not sure which to furnish the Z13.

You can't run RAM at 1333 Mhz without a BIOS mod. The i7-640/620M processors only allow 1066 Mhz RAM by default. However, since the dual core i7-2620M can run at 1333 Mhz, I'm sure the 640M can handle 1333 Mhz but you'll have to tweak it a bit.
-
No. Anyways, CPU/FSB overclocking is not possible on the Z. BIOS mod doesn't change that fact.
-
OK thanks for the input, guess I just bought the wrong memories

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
1333 Mhz is fine... they'll just downclock to 1066 MHz but with faster timings... they'll work. beleive me... sony shipped my Z with Samsung ram at 1333 MHz and i added my own Super Talent ram at 1333 MHz
-
that is correct.
-
Actually, it is incorrect. Yes, it will run at 1066 MHz, but not at faster timings than normal 1066 MHz RAM already has. The JEDEC standard for PC8500 RAM is 7-7-7-20, and there's at present no 1333 MHz RAM that does better than this at 1066 MHz (and some do worse, if they don't have an SPD table entry for 533 MHz, or use a 2T command rate).
The only DDR3 notebook RAM I know of that does better than 7-7-7-20 is Kingston HyperX DDR3-1066, which is 5-5-5-15 1T. -
Anyhow, I don't think upgrading the RAM for 8GB to a "Better" 2X4GB Config is going to make the Z any better. The default 8GB is good enough IMO.
-
I have the crucial 1066 and it is great. It was cheap also <$100.
-
I got my Crucial 1333 8G at about 70 with 25 off 100 at Newegg
-
you are actually right
I was wrong -
I used Kingston DDR3 for my upgrade. 2x 4GB made all the diffrence.
-
which kinston?
-
will these work with the original Z series that I have (in signature)? I didn't realize 8Gb Ram was that cheap.
-
you can always buy them when newegg has 25 off 100
Let me alert you next time they have it -
@MISQ, Thanks alot. I will wait to hear from you. I only 3Gb right now on my Z.

Uhh... I meant that 1333 MHz RAM which is usually clocked at 9-9-9-24 will run at 7-7-7-20 @ 1066 MHz. Which is to say, 1333 MHz with a set cas latency will run at a faster cas latency than it is rated for if it is downclocked. Sorry if i wasn't clear. -
newegg do have a 20$ rebate plus a newegg10 for 10 off (new account)
make the Corsair 8g about 49 shipped! -
-
I would go for Corsair for the brand name.
-
I want to know if anyone has these specific modules on their Zs. Reading the reviews, seems like people have problems on their machines but work on Macs...
-
I do. I have crucial 8g on Z11 and Corsair 8G on Z13.
works no problem, rest it easy -
Is it the same kind I posted? If you say yes, I'm ordering tonight!
-
yes, it is correct
For Z13: Corsair or Crucial?
