Hello
I just purchased VAIO FW490J and launched FIFA 09 to try it, I found that there is problem in the keyboard, when I hold narrows Down, right or left, and another button, the game doesn't response to the third key button whether it's pass, shoot, sprint, or ...
I opened Word to check, when holding Down, right or left, and a letter button for example "q", the letter "q" isn't printed.
But when I hold UP, right or left, and "q", "q" is printed so well.
So to who have VAIO FW, can you try your keyboard? I want to know whether all FW models have this issue or just mine?
Thanks

I have an FW450 and don't seem to have that problem.
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver?
-
So does that mean that just my laptop has this issue? I think I should call Sony. -
-
I have a FW 490 CTO and I tried recreating the issue using word.
I do now face any issue when the down arrow is pressed but with the top arrow pressed the character "q" is not printed. -
What should we do you think?
Because of that defect, no games can be played on it without gamepad. -

oops my mistake.....It should have read "I do not face any issue when the down arrow is pressed but with the top arrow pressed the character "q" is not printed."

Hello again
I called Sony, they said that I have to send it for a repair, but I think it's easier and faster to return it and get a new one.
What do you think? -
Returning is always the better bet because a repair can install a refurbed part...but it's only better if you are getting a new computer from a different lot. That isn't easy to do in the same retail store region. Often driving even 45 minutes in a different direction gets you to a different retail store region. Check by phone so that your exchange will not be for a computer from the same lot. -
I requested a repair and ordered a new one, I hope the new one doesn't have that issue.
-
Another reason to take a new one rather than repair is that the warranties (manufacturer's and any extended warrany you purchase) are only obligated to repair or replace the computer up to the price you paid.
So, when you go through several repairs, if the total of the repairs meets or exceeds the price you paid for the unit (which is often different from what the unit retail price is, BTW), then the warranty is done.
In other words, it is NOT in the customer's interest to use the warranty at all on a new unit. The customer is, essentially, letting the manufacturer "off the hook" for the longer life of the unit.
Out of the box the thing should work perfectly. If it doesn't and you're within the exchange period, get a new one. -
i have it too... tomorrow i will go to the store and return for another one, to see if this is common

Good luck! -
Apparently, this thread has joined the main FW thread where this same opening posting has just been reposted.
