    I'm kinda new here. :)

I am interested in buying the new sony vaio fw directly from the sony site especially due to the hicolor screen. I ended up coming with a $1,550.90$ price tag on my configuration including shipping and taxes
I then saw this offer for free shipping http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/StaticView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&contentpage=CustomerSupport/ShippingNReturns/shipping_freedelivery.html&RequestPartner=CJ_freedelivery

But I have no clue how to activate it on my order.
    Any clues?
and any other specials that could be useful?

    Small questions aside...

Is it really worth the basically 300$ difference between the hicolor screen and the eco screen? and is the eco better than most laptops out there anyways?
I know, this question is largely asked on these boards lately, but no one really compares the eco screens to other laptops.

Is the ati mobility radeon good enough for casual gamers? Not the best resolutions or best graphics, but just good enough. For exemple, will it be able to accomodate upcoming games like starcraft 2.

And my last question, is the atheros wireless card bad and how does it compare to the wireless card in the upcoming centrino 2, especially the different draft versions of wireless n, at least to my understanding.

    Thanks!

Once you tally your bill and check out, you should notice no charge for the shipping.

I have a double lamp screen like the hi-color version. It's really very nice. I noticed when I went into the store to have a look at the FW, it was the normal ECO screen. While it is in fact sharp as a tack, I found myself underwhelmed, perhaps because I am used to a 1900x1200 double lamp sony screen on my laptop that is incredibly nice to view.

I didn't know the price disparity was that big a difference up there: the difference down here is just $100 for the higher end screen.

I think the Radeon 3470 will be very satisfactory for mid-range gaming, perhaps even being quite nice for more intensive ones - I will have to test it out to tell you for suresies

For the free order, this is also what I taught until I clicked bacl order. The 45 $ for shipping is then present and the sony vaio canada isn't that specific what to do about to get the free order. So anybody knows?

And as for the hi-color, you're both right. But if you take the best buy configuration at 1099$, spec for spec, and try to match it, you will end up paying about 300$ more.
The question should rather be...how does the xbrite eco compare to other laptop makers? Is there really a difference with it against the others on contrast, viewing angles ect or would you really would have to go with the hi-color to see that difference? Would the eco top out all the others?

And about the ati card, are the drivers any good?
Because in youtube a 8400m gs which is lower can perform very good with the right drivers on games such as world in conflict

I know, I know, will ask this also in the graphics boards later.

    please check this thread
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=279470

and the image phil posted comparing the eco (left) to hi color (right)
    http://www.imagebam.com/image/47e2e69911525

I myself will be ordering the hicolor screen since I do some graphics work. I just checked the one on bestbuy.ca (I am assuming you are in canada) and the FW model there is the 160DH

    http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10108936&catid=26955

and comparing it to the one on the sonystyle.ca site, its the same price, 1349.99. the only sony at 1099 is the NR series, which seems to be an error on the website, since it mentions the P8400 and FW.

I think best buy meant to post the 140D, since its the only FW model on sonystyle that is 1099.

shipping is free for any product over 25 bucks on sonystyle.ca (regular shipping that is, not express). Of course buying from sonystyle.ca will mean a wait time until august for your laptop, 14th or so.

If you do buy it at bestbuy, ask whether when you return it, they will charge you restocking fee, and one does exist and it has happened to a few people that I know of, so ask before you buy since if you return it, a 15% restocking fee is no fun.
