Hi,
I am using Sony CS series laptop.. I am getting frequent power problem in my machine. The problem is i am unable to turn on the notebook after a perfect shutdown. For the first time it happened one month before i had brought it to the service center. The service engineer said that he has reset the CMOS battery and it started working fine. One week after the service i encountered the same problem again. Is the CMOS battery linked with the turn on button of a the Laptop, I dont think so. Can one help me to identify the exact reason behind this?

Resetting the CMOS settings by un-plugging the CMOS battery is a common fix for a notebook that won't turn on. But there are usually reasons why it needs resetting though.
What version of Windows are you running?
Have you got the latest version of Vaio Notebook Utilities installed?
Are there any BIOS updates for your model?
You might also want to look at replacing the CMOS battery altogether. Low voltage will corrupt CMOS settings quite easily, and the effects of that corruption won't be evident until a cold restart or boot is done. -
Hi.. thanks for your update. I have been using Windows Vista business in my notebook and i have updated my OS 3 months before after that i was getting some error due to IE 8 update. I am trying to recover the update error still...
Recently i have bought a new china made charger and started using it.. i think this problem might be due to this charger. I have asked for original sony charger it costs too high. So now i have bought a Cool Master Compatible charger...
I dont find any BIOS update for my note book..! -

What about the Vaio Utils? They have low level access to BIOS and CMOS functions. Have you updated them?

Could. If the software isn't reporting new events to the BIOS as it should, it could corrupt the CMOS, which is just cached BIOS info. Try that, and if it doesn't work, I'd look at replacing the CMOS battery next. The CMOS battery is just a button-cell battery shrinkwrapped in plastic. You can replace it usually for 5 bucks or less.

Ok fine.. let me start the machine first by reseting the CMOS battery.. and then update all the utilities softwares including the BIOS driver. If the problem comes again i will look into the replacement of CMOS battery.... Thanks for you support.......
