    Hello All,

I just finished an online conversation with Sony Tech Support, and I thought I would give everyone a chance to share in my frustration with the Sony corporation. Please, read on.

Lauren_ > Hi Mo. Welcome to Sony Online Support today. I'm Lauren. Please allow me a moment to review your concern.
    Mo Fahs > hi lauren
Lauren_ > Thank you for waiting, Mo. Could you please explain me your concern?
Mo Fahs > I ordered the vaio z series about two days ago customized to order and was wondering if i could have somone install windows seven release candidate 1 for me rather than vista
Mo Fahs > i dont really have it in my schedule to take an entire day to download and install the drivers for it
Lauren_ > Mo, Microsoft has a released only a test (beta) version of Windows 7 Operating System, which is not tested for compatibility in your Computer Model.
Lauren_ > Sony Computers are not yet released with the Windows 7 Operating System.
Mo Fahs > Windows 7 is vista optimized, its the same kernel, and therefore all drivers that work for vista work on 7 with no problem
Mo Fahs > and its not in beta, the release candidate was release two days ago
Mo Fahs > its available for free download on micrsofts website
Mo Fahs > Lauren, I really need you to help me with this, I cannot stand vista, and i assure 7 will, and has run on mulitple vaio z's with absolutely no problems
    Mo Fahs > assure you*
Lauren_ > I'm truly sorry Mo; Sony has not yet released any update for the compatibility of the Windows 7 Operating System with the Sony Computer.
Mo Fahs > I understand Sony needing to be official about things, but I'm telling you, its absolutely compatible, its my computer, I plopped down two grand for this machine. why can i not have it customized the way i want
Mo Fahs > I mean ill sign a consent form if u need me to
Lauren_ > According to the information available online, the Computer VGNZ690 is only compatible with 64-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista Business, 64-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Operating System.
Mo Fahs > its just a LOT of work for me to go through the motions of installing the os and drivers all over again when the techs over there can just install it rather than doing vista
Mo Fahs > Only because it hasnt been "officially tested" on it yet
Mo Fahs > but i assure you, its compatible
Lauren_ > Mo, I'm sorry; Sony Computers are not yet tested with compatibility Windows 7 Operating System.
Mo Fahs > Its my notebook, and ill assume that responsiblity.
Mo Fahs > Is there a manager, or upper level personnel i can speak with?
Lauren_ > Once the Computers are released with compatibility of Windows 7 Operating System, it will be mentioned on the News and Alerts page on the Sony Support Website.
Mo Fahs > Is there a manager i can speak with please?
Lauren_ > Mo, I consulted the issue with our Supervisor.
Lauren_ > Please wait while I escalate this chat to the Supervisor.
Lauren_ > Please wait, while the problem is escalated to another analyst
    Lauren_ >
Bradley_ > Hi Mo. I’m Bradley. Please allow me a brief moment to review your concern.
Bradley_ > Thanks for waiting, Mo. I will be glad to assist you with the information about installing the Windows Seven in the VAIO Computer.
Mo Fahs > Hi Bradley, theres no problem really, I order a VAIO Z a couple of days ago, its still being built, and I would like windows seven release candidate one installed on my notebook, I understand its not "officially" compatible, and I assume all risks and responsiblities for the install.
Mo Fahs > Because the tests have been done by idependent individuals and it is perfectly compatible, I assure you that much. I need you to make it happen Bradley.
Bradley_ > Mo, as the Microsoft has not released the Windows Seven officially, I'm sorry to inform that you Sony will not install an Operating System which is not officially release by the Microsoft.
Mo Fahs > The laptop belongs to me Bradley, I see no reason why Sony wouldn't.
Bradley_ > Yes, the Windows Seven Operatting System will work normally in the VAIO Computers.
Mo Fahs > Thank you for acknowledging that.
Mo Fahs > and believe me
Mo Fahs > I would do it myself and save you and I the frustrations of this conversation, but I just don't have it in my schedule to do it anytime soon, and I need this laptop to function the way I want it to right out of the gate.
Mo Fahs > I don't think I'm asking too much of Sony after dropping two thousand dollars.
Bradley_ > However, as the Windows Seven is not officially released by Microsoft, Sony will not install a beta version of Operating System in the Computer which will create lot of problems in later period of time.
Bradley_ > Microsoft has only release the Beta version of the Windows Seven only.
Mo Fahs > Bradley, I am willing to handle those problems should they occur. Please, stopped with the "official" responses, and consider whether this is really too much for your company to handle.
Mo Fahs > No, it is out of Beta. As of May 5th, the release candidate has been pushed through, and is available for free download on Microsoft's website
Bradley_ > Yes, it is only the RC Version not the original Operating System. I do agree that the RC version will be probably the original Operating System but until and unless the Microsoft release the Operating System, I'm sorry Sony will install the Operating System in the VAIO Computers.
Bradley_ > Mo, I'm sorry for the inconvenience in this regard.
Bradley_ > I'm sorry Sony will install not the Operating System in the VAIO Computers.
Bradley_ > I'm sorry for the typo.
Mo Fahs > Bradley, my email is --] , can you please email me this conversation, I would like to post it online.
Bradley_ > I'm sorry Sony will not install the Operating System in the VAIO Computers
Mo Fahs > The conversation Bradley, pleae email it to me.
Bradley_ > Sure, I'll forward this chat transript to your email address for your reference.
    Mo Fahs > Thank you.
Bradley_ > Sure, please check your email address for this chat trancript.

I don't think you could honestly expect ANY manufacture to install a beta OS on your laptop for you, despite how awesome it may be (and W7 RC is awesome)

it's not that difficult to install on your own, it'll take all of 30 minutes... less actually, not all day.

I think you were the one being slightly unrealistic in this spat with sony :p

I fully agree with what they say. You cannot expect ANY manufacturer to install a unreleased operating system. What you asked them to do likely caused them more frustration than yourself.

No, it was a totally STUPID request. Do you really expect them to pull your machine from a production queue, download a release candidate copy of Win7 and then manually install it, manually install the drivers, manually install the applications and then ship it off to you? Do you REALLY think that every machine has the OS, drivers and applications installed MANUALLY? Get a clue. The machines all have images of the entire pre configured partition installed on them. Stop whining, and do the work yourself if you are so certain it is easy and everything will work fine.

Wow, for the first time in my life, I'm agreeing with Sony Tech Support.

But let's be honest, the time you wasted with Sony Tech Support, fully knowing they will NOT install it could have actually been used to you know, inform yourself and get everything ready to install 7 when your laptop arrives.

Oh no I do know how to install it, but I was feeling brave this morning, and I decided, what the hell, its worth a shot, what if they actually do install it, fifteen minutes of typing definitely beats a couple of hours of work on a computer that, for that price, should run the way I want it to right from the start. I mean why do we have to just accept this whole business of "new computer day." The whole concept that when you get a new pc, clear your schedule for that day, because you're going to be busy deleting all the crap ware and debloating an OS that's bloated enough as it is. The Mac users don't have to go through this, why should we?

Then go buy a Mac and stop your whining.

    Gary

BTW. You may have noticed that the mods, here have deleted your potty mouthed reply to me. But my question still stands, do you REALLY think that any manufacturer manually installs the OS, drivers and apps on every machine that leaves the factory? That is what you were asking them to do.

The thread is going nowhere so its closed. Tech support/CS will be reasonable when you have a reasonable request.

FYI, TANSTAAFL("There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch")...if you dont like what the manufacturer offers, then there are plenty of other options(assuming you want to make some sacrifices)

Also, make sure you know the forum rules.
