I would choose the FullHD sounds sweeter than XbrightECO ;)

the only problem with the Full HD screen is that the font ant text is irritatingly low on all web pages.

full HD no questions asked, better colours, a lot more desktop space, the only time I have trouble reading text on websites is when the actual website has really tiny tiny font, and this is rarely the case on many of the sites I visit.

Neither screen is perfect. FullHD (1920x1080) is brighter and has better color but has horribly small font size. Eco screen (1600x900) has perfect font size but less bright and has worse color reproduction. You can either change the DPI or lower the resolution of FullHD to make the font more legible but neither solution is perfect.

Historically, FW190 has the best screen. It's HiColor (1600x900) screen has all the characteristic of FullHD but with more legible font size. But it's Radeon HD 3470 video card is slow. FW390 has the best video card (Radeon HD 3650) but as I mentioned, the screen is the problem.

FW190 is perfect in every way except the video card. FW390 is perfect in every way except the screen. If only Sony can combine the two.

FULL HD in combination with ATI Radeon 3650 + 512 MB.

I had the chance to compare both in a shop called Saturn here in Germany, the difference is huge and even my wife did not hesitate (she is not very much interested in computers) in buying the full HD.

Small fonts are not a problem for me, I can read them with out problems.

I have both at home and have compared them (mine and bros fw11e)
    full hd is brighter
full hd has better colours and makes the eco screen look pale

its just better, although the text is a bit small its easily readable.

thank you guys for your responses. After two weeks of playing with this laptop I have made the tough decision to send it back. I am now in the market for a new laptop and am open to suggestions. The fullHD screen just did not suit me. I appreciated and marveled at the brilliance of the colors and what not but it is just not a good fit for me. The Eco screen is an awesome screen in its own right and I think I will just go that route if I decide to order another sony laptop.

Haven't seen either the FullHD or Eco screen, but have opted for the Eco screen a couple of days ago. (Takes 3-4 weeks to deliver, though).

Reason I opted for the ECO was that it contains one lamp as opposed to two, meaning increased battery times, and the screen would be more legible to read due to the lower resolution. I can imagine 1920x1080 is tiny. I only have 1650x1050 resolution on my 21" external monitor and that's ideal. Wouldn't've wanted it any smaller.

You'd also be able to play games natively at 1600x900 at higher FPS compared to 1920x1080.

Not interested in HD video so I don't need the extra resolution for watching movies, either. These laptops aren't really designed for movie watching anyway, due to the lower battery lives.

My eyes are quite sensitive too, so I don't like massively bright screens.

As mentioned, though, I haven't seen either screen (FullHD or ECO) so had to make up my mind by merely thinking which might be best for me. I will report what it's like when I get it, but that may be several weeks away (Sony UK is slowww to configure laptops).

I just sent my fullHD screen back this morning. The colors are brilliant and a true treat but it is just too small on irritating after a while. (I held onto it for two weeks and could not get over it) Even though you can zoom in on any page and adjust settings it is just too much of a hassle and who wants to have to zoom in on every page just to see better. For basic web surfing and excel and word use the eco screen is perfect. the dimensions are 1600x900. I look forward to receiving mine soon. Does anybody know how much bigger the font is on the eco screen vs the HD?

If it is just the font size that is bothering you, try firefox 3.07 with the nosquint add on. It will remember the font size you pick for each website for 6 months so you don't have to keep resetting it. You can adjust both the full zoom or text only zoom. It doesn't work with the 3.1beta version of fire fox yet but the "Default full zoom level 3.9" add on does work with the beta firefox.

If you are using a mouse alot ,you can use firegestures to adjust the text size in addition to either of the above add-ons. Those addons will still remember the font size you pick, even if you pick them with firegestures.

yeah but even on my itunes it is just off and I do not think that the HD is worth the hassle, when the eco screen is pretty gorgeous itself, without the headache.

thanks, no squint works great. i couldnt find out how to keep firefox in 120% zoom and no squint does it as default.

    i like my 1920x1080 screen.

the only thing i dont like is i can only pick from 3 resolutions. i would like more options for games maybe.

kieran, playing games at those resolutions is stupid, as the 3650 or 3470 cant pukk it off on any half decent games

for me, and my sight is fine, the 1920x1080 has small text but is easily readable. 1600x900 has larger text that is very easy to read and looks nicer.

You need to set the FullHD screen's zoom to 125% to get the same size font as on the HiColor or Eco 1600x900. Thus, 25% bigger it would seem.
