I wish I could help you, because I have the same problem! I think the best solution would be to reinstall some of the stuff (drivers, bloatware) from Sony's site, since my brightness function keys stopped working after I went on an uninstalling crusade (although most of the other Fn's still work).

yea same here.....

Hi guys. Sorry for jacking this thread but, I am having the same problem right now with my FS745P/H, the fn keys just stopped working, it happens fairly often and restarting the laptop fixes it. Please does anyone know how I can adjust the volume and brightness manually without using the fn keys? or how can this issue be fixed without restarting? My OS is XP SP2, TIA

hi all,
I hope i can help you. I have a FW11 and i have the same problem that the Fn keys don't work.
Yesterday i found another thread about a CR?1 laptop, in which they explained how to get them workin, i dont know the link at this moment, but maybe you can perform a search..and find that thread. -
Bumping this:
I did the semi clean install per the giant thread and now mine don't work as well on my FW.
Thanks -
For the record, this solution works even though it's for XP - found it on the sony e-support site.

The special buttons, function keys or hotkeys on the computer or keyboard do not operate properly.
Solution
Follow this procedure to enable the special buttons or function keys on the computer or keyboard in the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system.
IMPORTANT:
If software has been installed for use with a third-party keyboard or mouse, uninstall the software to ensure there are no conflicts.
On AMD™ or Transmeta™ processor-based computers, the function keys are hardware controlled and not controlled by a hot-key utility.
NOTES:
The volume button, brightness key, and disc eject button on some computers will not work if the HotKey Utility application is not running.
The Magnify button and the Fn keys will not function properly before the operating system has finished starting.
The setting may not be saved if the ESC key is used to close the Fn display. Press the ENTER key or allow the Fn display to close automatically to save the setting.
Click the Start button, then click Run .
In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG .
Press the ENTER key.
In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
On the Startup tab, under Startup Item , ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox.
NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the HotKey Utility application and the Sony Utilities Library.
Click the OK button.
In the System Configuration box, click the restart button.
Function keys wont work
