when I go to windows update there is an update driver for my 8400GT!
should I use that one or is there any better choice?

I personally ha the same choice but on a SZ650N/C..
After the update all was good when booting on dedicated 8400GS but had a service crash on every X3100 boot...
On a FZ with only dedicated graphics I think there no reason not to upgrade...

I upgraded the nvidia driver a long time back and the gaming grahics subscore in windows user exp increased from 5.2 to 5.4. No problems after upgrading.

Desinstall the nvidia drivers from control panel (with windows booted on the dedicated card), then restart and let windows install back the sony provided drivers, then all should be OK...

Another thread here mentions disabling one of the nvidia startup items in msconfig, its apparently not needed and runs even if switched to the intel card so youll get a crash or rundll error in stamina mode

might want to check all your display issues with the new driver, colour on external display, dvd and bluray playback etc
