Forgive me if this has been answered previously...but I've read through nearly 100 pages and not found a definitive answer.

Thinking seriously about picking up the Sony VPC115FM/B at Best Buy:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+...lack/9705382.p?id=1218154378383&skuId=9705382

I realize the 330M GT is not a tier 1 video card for gaming...but I'm curious if this card can drive the native 1920 by 1080 res of this laptop in modern games (MW2, Mass Effect 2, etc). I'm not looking for 60 frames per second...would be satisfied with 30...just trying to gauge if this is a reasonable expectation.

Closest answer I've found in the owner threads indicated that one person said it could run native on Left 4 Dead 2 and COD: World at War.

Very impressed by the performance of the i7 core and DDR3 memory...just hoping the video card can at least hold its own.

Thanks for any and all input.

I don't really play games on my PC, so you're probably more informed about what this means. But I just saw some video of the F series running the Street Fighter IV benchmark with 45-50 FPS.

+1 rep for your effort to help...I really do appreciate it. That video was helpful.

I'm not sure how stressful SF4 is...but that does give me a bit of piece of mind seeing that. Anyone else with some game experience on this machine would be very much appreciated. I have the chance to pull the trigger on this machine today...but need to know if it will be sufficient for gaming along with all of the other applications I run.

    Thanks again.

I managed to stumble across this video...Crysis running on this laptop...albeit not at native res (it's 1024 by 768)...but still smooth for what it is. Still can't get a definitive on what this machine will do at native...but any interested in Crysis on high detail at non native, here you go...

O yeah, I actually saw that video too.. :) Maybe you could ask some people in the general F series topic? Or maybe there are some 330M GT benchmarks/tests on the net?

    It gets about the same 3dmark 06as a desktop 9800 S, or 8800 GTS.
It might not be able to run full detail on everything, but the 330m is a reasonably capable gaming card.

    I appreciate the comparison.

I know many are content playing at 1024 by 768 for the sake of frames...but on a 1920 by 1080 screen...I think the lower res looks crummy. Like I said, not expecting this card to produce blistering performance at native...just something adequate.

Thanks to all for the info you've provided. We'll see if I get any answers from the F owners lounge.

    From that link posted above:

"When we played various games, including World of Warcraft and Far Cry 2, we enjoyed high frame rates only when we lowered the resolution; at the machine’s native resolution (1920 x 1080) they were fairly slow, but still playable. For example, World of Warcraft ran at 60 frames per second at 1024 x 768 resolution and 39 fps at full HD."

I'm not a WoW player but I have been tinkering with a trial. My settings are med/high at native resolution and in the trial world (or whatever it's called) I get 60-100fps. I'm not sure how that would translate in battles but my guess is better than what the author of that article states.

Are you playing at native or a lower res?

Thanks for the time and input.

EDIT: Sorry...just reread the post and noticed you were playing at native....thanks again.

Anyways, temperatures did not change whatsoever compared to stock. Got 6926. I think this 330m is a gem boys. Have fun overclocking!

From the new CW Thread with core i5 and 512mb 330M. Looks like you could easily OC the 330M and get a ton better performance.

What kind of gaming boosts are you getting? This is interesting and makes me want to try it out for sure.

Oh yeah? That's a common thing for Sony? Does that mean overclocking this gpu might not be such a high risk?

I know that the G310m is just an overclocked G210m. The GT330m is a higher clocked GT230m with the shaders being a little bit more enhanced on the 330m. While Sony does routinely underclock their cards for a quieter operation, they usually overclock pretty well with the notable exception of the 8600m GT/S fiasco. I would say that you'll be able to play games pretty well at 1280x800 or 1366x768 on High or Medium-High settings, but with 1920x1080 don't expect it to pump out detailed hi-res games like Crysis or NFS-Shift at High detailed settings. On 1920x1080 you'd probably have to dip to Low or Low-Medium.

Yeah I'm fine with FHD at low settings.

So I'm experimenting with overclocking the gpu - 675/900/1430. The highest temp so far is 66 degrees and Call of Duty:World at War is running great for me now.

    /me keeps fingers crossed.

It's very playable on this laptop (framerates in the 40s and 30s) at 1920X1080 with shadows & AA fully turned off, and the advanced video quality options all set to high, not extra. That being said, I'm all about the FPS and play at the aforementioned settings but 1368X780 or whatever that 16:9 ratio resolution is.

I"m kinda bummed. Even with OC on this GPU this laptop can BARELY handle the FFXIV bench.
