    I have a VGN-N365E.

    Intel 945GM Chipset

    1280x800 Screen resolution.

While trying to play any game at a smaller resolution, it will display the game with a black border around it.

640x480 shows up as a tiny game window with a rather large black border.

The border gets smaller as resolution gets larger. The only way to get rid of the black border is to run the game at 1280x800.

    Any suggestions?

If you've got your Intel GMA drivers installed, you can probably right click on your desktop. Go to graphics options --> panel fit, and select maintain aspect ratio or full screen(but then it'll get stretched).

this is strange. when i select maintain aspect ratio and open a game, the problem is still there. When i got back into graphics options, it still says full screen, not maintain aspect ratio. For some reason it wont save those settings.

the problem is sometime game-dependent. some game support wide-screen, and some don't.

i have this same exact problem with world of warcraft. same chipset 945gm, but a dell laptop instead. It started occurring when I updated with the latest intel video drivers. 15.6.1 or something.

That happened to me too when updated to latest drivers. Just rollback. If asked, just install the Windows Update drivers, which work fine too.
