    Hi guys,

seems like my current SZ standard battery is shot, can't seem to get more than 2 hours of juice anymore.

looking to buy either another standard or extended battery for it
how bad does the extended battery look/feel anyways? would you guys advice me to stay away from the extended ones?

also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of going with Generic brand batteries? are there any compatibility issues? do they fit well? would you recommend them?

    thanks!

I cannot comment about the Sony extended battery, but I would advise you to stay with OEM batteries.

If you search around the forums, you'll find that several people have been unable to use OEM batteries in VAIOs. I don't know if a workaround is (widely) known.

Here's a good place to start:

I would definitely buy an official Sony battery as from my experience, generic batteries will die much sooner. In this case it's worth the extra $.

Sony's batteries are definitely expensive--but I would probably go with one of theirs if I were in your shoes. The reasons are outlined in the battery guide linked to above.

Sony's notebooks in particular are programmed to reject non-Sony batteries. There are workarounds, though--as mentioned above.

It's really up to you to decide if you want to take the risks involved with unregulated batteries. Obviously there are a number of people who successfully use generic batteries or there wouldn't be a market for them.

    Good luck.
