For your Sony VAIO or any other system that
1) comes with a restore partition and no discs
2) comes with a restore disc that is not just Vista
you can get a copy of Vista on CDs for 9.99 from MS at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/ordercd.mspx
All you need is your Product Key.

Nice, I didn't know about this. Thank you.

Nice idea, but it doesn't work. Quoting from that web site:
"It's easy to obtain the media you need for your recent purchase of a retail packaged product of the Windows Vista operating system
...
If you have purchased a license of Windows Vista from an OEM or System Builder, please contact the OEM where you acquired the software."
And when I actually tried it with the product key from my FZ190, it returned the following error:
We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred:
No Offer Found -
I don't know if you legally download Vista retail disks yet (afterall, the important thing is having your serial key, right?), but I plan on using a "less-than-original" copy to re-install Vista.
-
This keeps giving me a "no such offer" message whenever I type in the serial and submit it.

Sorry folks, it seemed to work for me although I did go all the way through to actually purchasing the discs.
