    Hi!

    I purchased a VGN-CR14GN/B two days back, i am very happy with it for the moment, but there is one buggy thing that i tend to hate. There is this Wireless device switcher utility (switcher.exe) which loads with windows.

    This actually loads generally a minute after the whole computer starts and i noticed that it actually disconnects and reconnects my wireless internet. which means that i have to wait again for some time to get it back connected.

    I want to get rid of this icon from the taskbar at startup, how can i do that? can someone using vaio suggest please?

    I can always open this from the vaio control center when i want to switch the frequency or toggle bluetooth mode, etc

    I tried to find ways to get it out from startup, checked HKLM\Run etc also msconfig and hijackthis, none can trace its key from where it can be removed from startup.

    Please advice

    Thanks in advnce

    Regards

    It must be hiding in the registry. Check these locations. One of them will have it.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    I had searched those locations before, now i did a complete registry scan for switcher.exe and found it at the following locations.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Switcher.exe

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{2A0F3EF9-68EE-49E9-A05B-ED5B82DF63E5}

    You can uninstall the utility completely from Control Panel - Programs and Features - Wireless Switch Setting Utility - Uninstall.

    Then you will have both your Bluetooth and Wireless on all the time :p If you want just the wireless you can disable the BT hardware in Device Manager.

    I do not think that keeping the full switching functionality but starting the utility manually is possible.

    Install Wireless device switcher v. 3.6. The new version fixed this bug and works very well.
