    Man here goes nothing...

I have HALF of a laptop (Girlfriend smashed the top half LCD portion to pieces). I cut the 3 wires to completely remove the LCD portion. Now the notebook STILL works, and since I have it dual booting, I can press Down arrow when I turn it on, and hit enter, wait a few seconds and then hear the XP sound effects (Or let it default into Vista).

My problem is, when I hook up my external LCD into the port on the laptop, I do not get a picture. I've tried the function key (Fn + f7) and still get no picture. I have a sony vaio vgnr1100e or something like that (The model that was purchased from bestbuy on black friday 07 for 399.99). The only possible solution I could think of was disconnecting the other half of the black and grey wire from the board itself, but no luck there.

Do I have to physically disable the LCD monitor in the options of my laptop or enable the external before I am going to get a picture? Or is the external automatically supposed to work? Or was it supposed to work provided I had the regular screen working? If i need to enable the monitor, can anyone provide me with the EXACT keystrokes to go into display options and enable secondary monitors? That would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate everyones help on this. Kinda sucks having half a computer =(

I think you have to enable it in the settings. I can help you a bit with XP but not Vista as i am unfamiliar with it.

By the way i think its FN+8 or f8. Atleast thats what my roommate has.

OK, in XP, hit the key between the Alt and Ctrl buttons on the right side (not the windows key). From there hit UP on the d-pad, then enter. Hold shift and hit the tab key once. From there hit the Right arrow atleast 6 times (it doesnt loop). From here im not completely sure what to do cuz i have a desktop and a monitor. But i think if you hit tab once or twice youll hit the correct drop down menu and from there you only have to hit down once, and then somehow get your laptop to get to the OK button and then you should see something if you have a PnP monitor.

    Major Update:

I got sick and tired of it not working, so as I was loading vista, I just smashed all the buttons and WOILA! I had a picture on the LCD monitor! So now I have my external working perfectly fine with vista when I elect the Vista option from start up. I still have a few problems though. I am unsure why I cannot see the computer booting up information, and I still cannot figure out how to get the damn monitor to work with XP.

Ahhhh this is killing me =(
