    Hi there,
Is there any way to enable the GPS on the Vaio Z with the Qualcomm chipset while maintaining wifi connectivity? I use Pdanet for sharing my 3g connection with my iphone and the only way to do this (other than using the cable, which isn't an option) is to use wifi.

I'd like to also have the ability to use the GPS functionality of the Z at the same time but because of a software restriction I can only use one or the other simultaneously.

I was wondering what the smartwi program actually does to enable GPS? Is it some sort of command it sends to the device?

I know on the earlier Z models with the Option chipset there was a command that you could use in hyperterminal to enable the GPS function, however it doesn't work for the Qualcomm and I'm unsure of whether terminal access is even possible with this device.

Any help would be much appreciated.

not sure what the problem is: I can have both the GPS and WLAN on in SmartWii and the WWAN off but it takes a little sequencing in starting stuff to get there.

I can also get ALL of it on at the same time (which didn't work in the previous version of SmartWii on my old Z but was possible in the Linux port)

Whenever I try and enable location services, it switches WLAN off automatcially, WWAN is off. I've tried flicking the switches in different orders but one always switches the other off, it's very annoying!

I have only WiFi and BT toggles in my SmartWi. And there are only LAN and WLAN network cards in device manager. It's Canadian customized VGN-Z890. How to discover the Qualcomm WWAN card? How to add the Location Services switch?

Crap. It seems that there is no WWAN in Canadian CTO Zs.

    Hello,

Sorry for bringing back this thread but Treofred, could you explain me how you did to activate the GPS and have it working with the Wifi?

I use an european Vaio Z if that helps.

So is it possible to use the GPS without an internet connection?
