I'm planning on buying an FZ for school soon.

Gonna get the 2.4ghz poccessor, blu-ray, the nvidia card.

I am thinking about just getting 1 gb of ram (the one stick version) then buying a 2gb stick off newegg, the 80gb hdd and buying a 160gb 7200 rpm hdd of newegg and then getting vista home basic then the OEM Vista Ultimate off of newegg. I priced out the stuff, it's not too much more expensive, but I get a 100% clean vista install and vsta DVDs.

Would this be recommended or should I just get 2gb ram, ultimate, the 160gb 5400rpm hdd from Sony?

Go ahead and get the stuff from Newegg, you'll be saving money. The FZ2 series is suppose to be coming out soon, and the blu ray option will be cheaper so keep that in mind.

You are getting a similar build as mine. Do not get the ram or hard drive from sony - they charge way to much for it. For the hard drive just get the 80gb one and swap it for a 7200 rpm drive. It is easy to do, just make sure to make the recovery DVDs from the 80gb drive before doing anything. You can always use the 80gb drive as an external hard drive by purchasing an enclosure. I just got 2x2gb of ram. Works well and much cheaper than through sony.

    Enjoy your new notebook.

The 80gb 5400rpm drive from sony is 2.5 inch so it will be a nice and light external hard drive. I bought a vantec 2.5 inch esata/usb2.0 enclosure.

i dont know if the 7200 is worth it on this laptop. i read it gives sub par gaming performance even with the 7200 seagate HD. other than minor boosts in speed here on there, i doubt its worth the 100 dollar price tag.

    gamer with 7200 RPM http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=153913

basically, if you are gaming hardcore, look elsewhere. otherwise, get 7200 rpm if you plan for using it for other apps, which i dont even know which would benefit from a 7200? i am curious too.

I'm not going to do much gaming. But I dabble in photo/video editing. Also I am a cs major. I also want the best performance possible. Getting the HDD I want from Sony is a little less than the price to buy the HDD from NewEgg
