I have no empirical info about the Z12 or if the Z11 is not shipping in Europe, but anecdotally, I can add that I ordered a Z11 from the Sony USA website on May 12th, and just I received an email that says it shipped today. Initially I was told this order would ship on May 25th, so it shipped earlier than I expected.

Actually, I get just as passionate about a $400 laptop. I would want it to be right and I would return it if it wasn't.

    Heya,

What ive heard of the new Z128 (at least for australian release)
is that the laptop will get some new connectivity, which is supposed to go with a PS3, and in the deal you get a PS3 as a bonus. Kinda like the Bravia TV offers we have.
The rest of hte specs were said to be unchanged.

Well ive got it preordered now xD

I was asked by Sony (through my reseller) to modify my order and buy five Z12 instead of five Z11 because the Z11 was stopped because of a production problem.
I don't know what exactly the problem is, but I don't think Sony would say there is a problem if not...

That's not my imagination, that's what my reseller and I were told by Sony. My reseller even gave me a Sony phone number in case I needed more information.

Forgive me for pointing out what seems to me to be a no-brainer  , but...

...why haven't you called yet? I know that I would have called 2, maybe 3, minutes after I was given the number. Perhaps you would consider calling on the behalf of the entire forum?

I didn't call because it won't change anything for me : there is only one solution, ordering the Z12 and waiting for its coming out at the end of june.
Calling or not won't change that. There is no explanation from them that will change the fact that I have to wait during more than three months to receive the computers I ordered for my colleagues at work.

But if you are interested on what they might say, I can call them.

That's crappy for you, I hope they give you a discount on your Z12s and you receive them promptly after the refresh. I'd be interested in their explanation if you're going to give calling them a whirl. However, I doubt they're about to unofficially disclose a production fault on the phone, and risk legal problems.

    Hi !
I called Sony. They told me that the VPC-Z11Z9 had been stopped because of a components penury.
But other models from the Z11 serie are still available (he told me about the VPC-Z11C7E, but it's completely different from the one I wanted).
He told me there was no official coming out date for the Z12... So I don't know how long I'll have to wait.

Well that's all the information I have, I don't know if that's the real reason why they stopped the Z11Z9 or only the official reason.

I suppose if there was a real latent defect on the Z11 serie, they would be obliged to communicate about it in order to repair or replace the concerned computers.

The shortage of mobile i7 is a widespread issue and is not limited to Sony.

The Z12x has been released in Australia and someone reportedly bought a Z126 from a local store.

Anybody tried installing Remote Play on their Z11? I guess having a PS3 is a pre-requisite...

    This I'm interested in.

I know the recent upgrade to PS3 was supposed to allow newer Vaio's to access remote play without having to hack the ps3. Do you know if the Z11 fits into the category?

So basically, I wanted to buy another Z, in this case the VPCZ11LHX/X
basically the Signature, without 1920x1080 screen or glossy premium carbon fiber.
Instead it has 1600x900 and premium carbon, everything else is the same.

I contacted portable one, and this is what they said:

"Unfortunately the last VPCZ11LHX/X has sold and Sony is replacing this model with a new one that should be available in the next several weeks. We’ll be receiving their Summer lineup next week."

I don't yet know. I suspect it's just software, I don't think it's dependent on hardware. My plan is to look at the support sites for Z12, then download and test. When I can find the time

This is outrageous! I ordered mine on April 30, original ship date May 18, pushed back to May 25. My ship date is still May 25! They must like you better than me. :p

Remote Play! I'm using the applications from the Aussie SonyStyle support site (2 apps: a keyboard and the Remote Play app itself). I think it's using WiFi, time to upgrade to 802.11n. Nasty...

Edit: The PS3 also has to be upgraded to the latest firmware.

(Later...) Ok so what's Remote Play for again?

hey, sorry to resurrect this thread again, but out of curiosity, where are you guys getting this information about the release date and what not? i've looked all over google and not found anything yet.

i ask because im actually in a bit of a bind. i work in afghanistan (no, not a marine, just an old nickname), and i will be home around the end of june, early july. im assuming that the refresh wont actually include a lot of hardware changes, but maybe the 1080 screen will be on it. thanks ahead of time fellas.

So much wrong about that post...

As written all over this forum, the SSD's will remain the same. The Z12 series is only a refresh. Only differences are in the options you can buy.

I see. So I will not regret if I see something of a firesale for the Z11. (If I am lucky).

If the i5 Z has non-properitery SSD, then is there a special bracket you can get?

I have seen and just ordered the Z128, the refresh to the Z11. Nothing much has changed (same processor etc). Just comes in different configurations (Australia doesn't offer CTO). So either way, it's all the same.

No, it won't. Sony will not modify the internal electronic boards layout in VPCZxxx.

Might there be an optional SSD drive in the Z12 HDD model? The space for it must be available already in the Z11, but I don't want to start taking apart my new baby once I got it.

    UPDATE:
I just realized that the German store already serves the Z12, unfortunately without this option.

The conversation between me and a SONY customer assistant:

you: so what's the difference between VPCZ12CGX/X and VPCZ11CGX/X ?

Stacey N: Let me look that up for you.

    you: thank you

Stacey N: the biggest difference is the color on those is different and the 12 comes with the Verizon card with Share My Connection where as the 11 did not. The 12 is the newest model.

you: do you mean the color of the machine (i.e. the color of the material) or the color of the screen?

Stacey N: The 12 also comes with the Adobe Bundle as well.

Stacey N: I mean the color of the color of the notebook itself, sorry.

you: thank you. so it sounds like there's no really difference between the two models..

Stacey N: Not much of a difference. We brought out the new model as we have sold out of the older one.

you: so no difference in inner structure, SSD drive, brands of all the parts, etc.?

Stacey N: No changes in that respect, no. Just adding the Adobe Bundle and giving more features with the Verizon card.

you: i see. thank you so much for your answers.

Yep, they are made by different companies, but it's more of a silent internal change that they don't really talk about.

Actually I think some evidence came to light recently that Sony is still using Samsung SSDs with some configurations of the Z12. I think maybe the quads are still Samsungs, whereas the duals are newer Toshibas. Someone can correct me if I have that backwards.
