Hi all. I am thinking of moving from my VGN-S4HP/B - which has served me well for a year and a half but is starting to wear down - to a newer model like VGN-SZ640N05.

Has anybody gone the same way from S4 to SZ? What are your experiences, impressions? Is the SZ series much larger than the S4, or -more precisely- does it FEEL much larger than S4. I am really satisfied with the attractive design of the S4, so will I be disappointed in SZ? I notice that the screen, although the same 13.3", is 16:10 ratio, not 16:9 as with S4? Is it also thicker? I read that there is a difference between the screens as S4 is lit by LEDs. Is there a really significant difference going to 2.2Ghz from S4's 1.7 Centrino? Stores where I live don't sell SZ so I'd be grateful for your personal impressions and any subjective or objective comparisons! Please. :)

well first of all, i would atleast get the sz650 beccause the sz640 doesn't have a carbon fiber casing or a LED backlight on the screen, making it thicker and a bit heavier and plus it won't look as bright.

and there will be a BIG differnce from a pentium M to a 3rd generation dual core processor. its already 500mhz clocked higher, and then its dual core. not to mention your also going from 512mb to 2gb memory which is another HUGE difference.

and the S4 (4.4 pounds) is HEAVIER than the sz650 (3.9 pounds, or 4.1 with the sz640). it is also thicker and has less battery life.

so yes, go get the sz :) and remember, i would def get the sz650 or higher to get the carbon fiber casing and led backlight - and the sony sz is a beautiful design, you will not be dissapointed. being so light and thin really helps too!

kickace, thank you very much for your response. You got me thinking about the SZ650, I wouldn't like to replace my S4's LED screen with a newer laptop which is nonLED.

    As for thickness, I thought S4xx was thinner than SZ650/640? S4xx is 12.3” x 1.16- 1.39” x 8.85” whereas SZxx is 12.5" x 1.0 - 1.5" x 9.3"?

And yes, you're right, vaio design is irresistible :)

well then yes, at the thickest point, it is .11 inch thicker, but at the thinnest point it is .16 inch thinner so i think the sz650 wins :)
