O yeh! it has all the pictures/diagrams and step by step instructions to completely take the laptop apart and how to put it back in great detail.

So anyone want me to look up something in it?

I would really appreciate it if you could post/scan the instructions on how to take apart the computer (especially to get to the motherboard).

if you find me the TT one, I am sending you a gift cert! I hope they are like the UX ones, with the exact procedure, otherwise I know how to open a TT already.... but procedurally, it will save me few bucks if I tear something the next time around :)

Thank you very much for the link :) Much appreciated. Im upgrading my Vaio Z with:
    - X9100 3.06GHz Extreme Edition CPU
    - Kingston HyperX low-latency DDR3 SODIMM 4GB
    - Solidata X1 SSD 32GB (currently the fastest 240MB/s read, 220MB/s write SSD)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342736

It will be an adventure to crank it open, get all the parts in and pray everything will still work :)

This is great, thanks a lot for sharing!

    Two questions:

    - Has anyone tried to replace the keyboard from the original Z with a backlit keyboard from the new Z?

    - Same question for the screen, has anyon tried to replace the 1600x900 by a 1920x1080?

    Cheers!

i don't think the new keyboard will work with the old Z. the blacklit is dependent on the light sensor, which is not available at the old Z.

Thanks for the quick replies. I didn't think about the light sensor. Would it be on all the time (which I don't mind as batery life on the Z is not my priority) or would it not work at all?

    no idea.

the thing is that sony sell the keyboard and the aluminium piece as a full set, which cost about $300 (for the old Z).

this might conclude that there are more differences in physical structures as well.

Thanks. At $300 it's not worth it for me anyway, so I'll give up on th idea (or upgrade the whole laptop later down the line).

I'd also be interested in upgrading to a 1920x1080 screen.

I have the 1366x768 (z610y) version and was thinking about upgrading to the 1600x900 screen, but if the 1920x1080 screen would work that would be even better.

It is best to start a new thread about your problem as this thread is about the VGN Z manual.

This disassembly guide says it is for the below-listed models. I would like to replace the HDD in my Vaio Z820G with a SSD. By looking at the models the guide explicitly says it *does* cover, does anyone know if the guide will apply equally as well to my model, the Z820?
