So we have all heard and seen the rumors of the EB series. I myself am waiting on my CW purchase to see what the 15.5" EB series will be like.
Anyway, while doing a search for pictures of the EB series, I came across this model VPCEA1S1E/W. Now, from the information I have gathered from a quick google, it seems to be very similar to the EB, but 14" instead of 15.5".
This means that it will be in the same market of the CW for screen size (they do have 3 13" screen laptops at the moment).
My guess is that E stands for Entertainment, but does that also mean premium Sony build quality, decent weight and good battery life?
What do you guys think?
-
linky please? As I am right on the verge of getting a cw, asus ul or k series, or a lenovo.
After an eternity of reading threads, staring at specs, and self meditation into what i need for a computer, I am left with so much.
So please, explain the eb! if nothing else, it should cause the cw prices to drop.
Although I don't think it will replace the cw, as it was just refreshed with core i... -

But really google is your best bet.
I think we will know more in march. -
Sony EB for sale here:
http://www.laptop24h.com.vn/(S(15jj...)/Product.aspx?DepartmentID=118&ProductID=331
It appears to be in stock too? However, the image shown is that of the Sony F. On the bright side, it does have specifications for the Sony E VPC-EB1AGX/BI, including the following:
2.66GHz Intel® Core i7 - 620QM with Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.33GHz
ATI Radeon HD 5650 1024MB Dedicated
15.5" Widescreen Display With XBRITE-ECO LCD Technology (1600 x 900 ) -
The EB and EA both seem to be killer, but there are details I can't find.
1. WHat does it look like (Yes, they are important)
2. How much will they weigh?
3. Battery Life?
4. Build quality?
5. Other... (backlight, numpad, physical size, multitouch...)
I do like the idea of the ATI 5650 card (which is rumored to only use 11W!) -

Where did you find this? -

-
Wow, the excitement is kind of gone now.... WHY DID THEY OFF CENTRE THE KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD!!!!!
I wonder what the EA series will be like? -
The website is gone now...
-
-
Good point! I still don't like the off centre keyboard, but I guess I would probably use it mostly at a desk with a USB keyboard...
-
it's official now in US starting price $800:

Sweet jesus I was just about to order the F-Series! Now I'm not so sure....
The HD5650 card is looking really good, and overall EB is cheaper than the F! -
I only see it coming with the 5470...where did you guys see the 5650?
-
they always do that when they had a number pad now...... nice video card, would have liked this video card over the 330m on the Z! Consumes less power while being more powerful
-
-
No word on Backlit keyboard?
-
no backlit keyboard in UK. I am guessing like the CW it wont be an option as this is a budget machine.
No backlit keyboard and poor speakers kill it for meI love my CW and it is only let down by those two features. if it had had them I would order it in a heartbeat

I wonder if the EA will also have 5650 option?
Seems the EB get the instant web option again -
Don't remember seeing this yet :
http://blog.laptopmag.com/sony-vaio-e-series-eyes-on-would-you-buy-a-metallic-teal-notebook -
Ugh, I just ordered a CW yesterday night. Do I want this instead?
-
They are different class. I prefer the style of the CW, but the EB will have a slightly better graphics card.
Personally the EB looks like an NW, and the NW was a pretty low quality Vaio (but their other standards). If EB doesn't get better build quality (better heat and keyboard in my opion) then the CW will be far superior.
If you are getting a CW with the 330, I would stick to it. -
damn that look nice!
-
If the E series has louder speakers and a better screen than the CW then those two things make the EB series the better choice. Also, the EB has the 1920 x 1080 resolution screen option and the e-sata port so it seems like the better choice. And that teal color....looks like old school VAIO colors. I like it.
-
-
Battery life for either of them honestly would be on the limited side so I'd buy the high capacity battery at the time of CTO.
-
EA is not going to replace CW!!! EA is 15.5 machine, probably combination of NW and CW!
EC will be the model to replace CW, we dont have info about EC yet! -
EA seems to be 14". The EB is the 15.5" model that will not replace NW as such, but be a higher range model.
If you look at the current NW, they are all designed to be very cheap. I suspect that the NW will live a little longer as the sub US700 Vaio, while the EB will spec into the 1300-1400 for HD screen and Blueray.
It will be interest to see what Sony's plan will be. Normally you would expect everything to be carbon based and have nothing in the market similar, but the new plan seems to compete directly with everyone around them.
By my guestimation, I think the EA will be designed to be even more consumer focused, with the instant on and wide range of colours.
Personally, I prefer the Sony ways of old, but at least now you can get something with the name Vaio for a reasonable price. -
The EB is not replacing the NW. The NW hasn't even been out for a year yet, it'll still be around for a while. So will the CW.
-
I wonder if these plastic bodies will hold up? Will it ultimately look cheap? The glossy finish looks like it'll get scuffed up even with careful handling over time and look worn out in a tired kind if way
-
-
I'm so close to ordering one right now, but I thought I should wait a couple more days for a review or two to pop up in order to make sure the quality of it before deciding to pull the trigger. -
i personally would wait. im not sure about it. i mean i like it, but some things just bug me. number pad on side (and no vertical home/up/down/end), seems to be no backlight.
small things. -
I'm waiting for the better graphics and processor options. I hope you can get the faster graphics with the lower res screen this time (weak eye site).
I agree about the F, AW ... But they are confusing as well. What I would like to see is a 13 inch premium and non premium. A 15 inch premium and non premium. At the moment they have the NW, B, EB in the 15 inch segment. In the 13 inch they have the Z, S and Y. They are getting to the point where they are confusing for the average consumer. -
A few things I've noticed
1) It is thinner than CW +1
2) Larger screen, but lower resolution than CW available at BB -1
3) Max CPU is i5-520m vs CW can have i5-540m... -1
4) More color selection and sleeker look +1
5) Standard bluetooth +1 -
Doh. Why are you comparing it to CW?
As I said, there will be a new model - EA - which will replace current model CW.
There will also be a model EC - which will be a 17.3 model, replacing AW.
There will also be a cheaper version of EB which will replace NW serie, probably not in color to hit the really low budget market.
All this models will come end of February so expect some official news and configurations real soon. -
I am guessing they are all using the same platform Billy? Will they all be Intel i3/i5/i7 with ATI graphics card (with Intel HD option)?
Has anyone had a hands on with any of the E series yet? -
Yes and according to prices all are a pretty low budget machines.
So I guess Sony is maybe planning to release some new version in future, maybe somethink like DE(A)(C) and offer better specs...
Goodbye CW Hello EA?
