So my SZ18GP/C arrived last night, and I picked it up today at the Sonystyle store. It's the 1.5GB version that also comes with a carrying case and a "USB Massager" (!?). FYI, I'm in Hong Kong and the computer cost me around HK$18700.

    First impressions:
    1) Yes, the battery's somewhat flimsy. Oh well.
    2) ****, this thing is light! Much, much lighter than my older Dell Inspiron 8200, which is impossible to lug around.
    3) The screen is great - far brighter than my Dell's screen. No noticeable light bleed so far, but I haven't played a DVD on it yet.
    4) The keyboard is a bit strange, but not a dealbreaker everyone was crying about. I'll get used to it sooner or later.

Since I just booted it up, so far these are my impressions. Will report more later.

    glad to hear!

Sony Style Hong Kong also notified me that the SZ18GP/C i ordered has arrived, but i have been too busy today (and will probably be this weekend) to get it... so i might just get it next weekend

I'm just wondering, do you need to do anything in the store after you got it? or did you just get the whole package and went home?

Hi, hope you like your machine!

I will be in HK in two weeks and I'm also considering to grab one of the beauties - The price is around 600 Euro cheaper than in Germany ...

    Just two Questions:
    1. Is the keyboard user-exangeable?

    2. and more important: how about Warranty. Can I somehow manage to get a international warranty? (with an additional fee).

    Have fun with your machine!

Toki77, you can get an international warranty for HK$490

however, it will only last for 1 year and you can't extend it anymore

you can only extend local warranty, but not international (according to the sony style sales person)

When did you guys order the computer? I am just wondering if everyone who pre-ordered it got the computer! If that's the case, mine should be waiting for me in HK right now!!! Can't wait for it!!

There is only one Hong Kong in this world.

Anyways to the OP, I'm just wondering what is the difference between the HK version and the North American version of the SZ160/SZ18GP ? Thanks.

No idea, since I've never used/seen a SZ160 before. But from the specs and the details on this board, it's pretty much the same as the SZ160.

    Sorry, I don't have a camera.

So far, so good. I was able to remove some bloatware and the machine runs well. In fact, very well, as this is the first time ever I could do a virus scan and surf the net and download stuff with absolutely zero lag!

I haven't had any problems with flimsy parts either. Apart from the slightly jiggy battery (which is a known problem with the Vaios anyways), the machine is very solid. I love how thin the screen it! And how bright it is compared to my old Dell.

The USB camera isn't *that* bad - I wasn't expecting beautiful 2 mega-pixel quality, so it does its job fine for chatting and stuff.

Well, they called me with a number, which I told them upon arriving at the store. Then they asked for my ID and my credit card (the one I used to order the machine with). I also gave them my Asiamiles card for 2000 extra points (yay!). The guy took the machine out and tested it, making sure there's zero dead pixels and other problems before packing it all in and sending me home with it! Went very smoothly.

What Bahbuu said. And not sure what you mean by if the keyboard is user-exchangeable. If you mean you want to install a keyboard yourself, the answer is NO. There's a reason why the keyboard is as it is. The lack of depth is purposeful in order to keep the machine as thin as possible.

The carrying case is rather disappointing alas - but my expectation wasn't high since it's a freebie. And the USB massager turns out to be exactly what it is - a massager which plugs into the USB port. Good, since I'm having lower back pains...
