At last the day came.. after almost a month of waiting i got my new Z540 - very stylish and nice machine.. but unfortantly i noticed the top-panel (keyboard) seemed un-attached to the buttom.. see the pics:

here you can see the top-panel is unattached.

here you can see the top-panel "wobbles".

I tried un-screw the screw in that corner and yes - it does not attach anything - so something is brokken.

I think this has happened when P1 changed my harddrive, i was told they took great care when upgrading the laptops- not mine apparently hehe

What do to? I am thinking of sending it back to them to get it fixed or get another Z.. but perhaps I can fix it myself?

Suggestions would be very appreciated :)

Send it back. Even if you can fix it yourself, why should you!

yeah.. the only "problem" is that I am from Denmark and P1 is in USA..
But I think I should demand a Z in perfect shape - so I am willing to wait :)

Yeah, I think you'd regret it in the end if you didn't.

Have them send you a new one ASAP. I'm sure PortableOne will not argue with you.

I am now talking to them via mail - first they told me they didn't even oppened my Z.. but they did - if they not used magic to get the X-25M inside it hehe.
Their guy from their integretion-center said "That sounds odd, the upgrades performed would not cause any cracks or spacing issues near the optical drive" - i just wrote them, that since every screw in the buttom needs to be removed, its likely the damage to the screw has been caused either by P1 or Sony.

On the Z, is there no separate door over the hard drive to allow easy access like most other Vaio models???

Yes! It would void the SONY warranty. But maybe P1 is providing their own warranty. I'd ask for clarification and get it in writing before you open up the case.

    Ok.. update..
After consulting the service manual and the P1 staff i managed to fix the problem my self.. - after re-fitting the palm-rest and re-fit the screws there is no more gap anymore :)
