    I received my TZ 250N/B today. :D
Yes there is a lot of bloatware and I am cleaning it up right now.
Sony did include a XP Pro downgrade disk with all of he drivers so I don't have to worry about not having things work if I decide to switch.
I will also make a backup and delete the part ion.

It is not as slow as some made it out to be, no as quick as my SZ but not bad at all.

This is going to be my replacement.

I was shocked to see the XP disk with all the drivers.
I think I will stick with Vista as I am used to it and it seems to run fine.

What version of Vista did it come with? Other manufacturers are sending XP disks with Vista Ultimate and Business.. Not heard of anything with Home Basic/Premium though.

Congrats and enjoy it! Given some time, sometime please post your opinion of the TZ and your transition to it- screenwise, sizewise, etc.- from the view of an SZ owner. I may consider the T series before the S series in the future. Thanks.

just got my CTO TZ. it came with an XP downgrade as well. but i think i remember the sony rep saying you have to order vista business (you get a choice of vista business or home on the CTO models) to get the downgrade disk.

also snagged the leather case for it ($66 at provantage vs $150 @ sony) and a 3yr warranty with accidental ($212 at provantage) which should be arriving tomorrow.

i love this machine! the wife has already asked to "borrow" it. funny thing is, things she borrows never seem to get returned to me.

I haven't decided if I want to keep Vista or downgrade to XP yet. I do find the TZ a bit slow (not a complaint, just a comment). I wonder if it would be faster with XP.

Much faster, but I hear if you tweak vista you can get it pretty quick as well. There are multiple vista tweaking softwares out there that can help. Personally I changed back to XP pro.

XP may be faster, but... I don't know. There's just something about Vista, and knowing that I am using the most modern operating system that makes me want to stick with my Vista Business. To me, there is nothing slow about Vista. I thoroughly cleaned my TZ from bloatware using Revo Uninstaller, which deletes EVERY little inch of bloatware by going all the way into the registry. I tweaked the startup programs and disabled several of them. Personally, I don't see any reason to go back to XP, when my TZ is already very zippy with Vista.

With XP, I may be able to open up a Word document in 2 seconds. With Vista, it takes me 5 seconds. I think I can live with the few extra seconds.

So they give you one single disk with xp and all the drivers on it? Would this disk work for the tz150, and how would one obtain this disk without ordering a new machine?

    What model do you have?

Interesting to know that also the models with the slow 4200 rpm HD can be usable. I thought that only the SSD can take the TZ fast enough, but it seems that with a semi-clean install and tweaking... :)

there's a thread in here somewhere (i can't seem to find it) that had the website and instructions to get the disc from sony. it's free if you had a code, otherwise, i think it was $10. also, i think it was only for the TZ1xx series. not sure if they're doing it anymore though.

you can always order one from portable 1 for $29.

I have the TZ270, the HD model. I figure it would be slower than the SSD model. I could be wrong, but it seems like mine is slower than the same model at the store.

I have uninstalled all the trial-ware, but I'll have to learn to tweak it a little more. I do plan on downloading the uninstaller somebody else suggested earlier.

I got mine zipping along pretty good.
I just made the recovery disk and plan to delete the hidden partition.
I got rid of everything they had except for the function button control, the wireless control,Battery conditioner and Vaio power plan.

I also keep my HDD shock setting on low, if you set it on med or high it will slow it down noticeably.

I know this question is hard to answer, but how much slower is the TZ (vs. the SZ) when multi-tasking with lots of open windows?

    Thanks!

Multi tasking overall is not an issue for what I am doing.
excel, word, outlook, powerpoint and IE7 all at once and it's matching my SZ.

Running excel I have not noticed any difference.
iTunes runs about 10 seconds slower.
It takes 88 seconds on the stop watch from Vaio logo to windows to load.
It can be faster if I got rid of the biometric log on.

I do not do any heavy graphics so no comparison.

IE 7 runs the same speed, as well as outlook.

Most of the programs I run on here is Office 2007 and some ERP and they all seem to be equal to my SZ. Adobe is about 10 seconds slower to load.
Again, I have the older SZ(260 with core duo) so the newer SZ would really smoke this.

I have 2 gigs and NO bloatware of any kind.
What amazes me more than anything is the battery life. 4 hrs and 41 min with full screen brightness and 5hrs and 38 min with screen down half. I think I can get 6 and 1/2 hours on here with some heavy tweaking.

Definitely worth it. No regrets yet.

IMPORTANT QUESTION! Hey guys, I have a really imortant question for the Sony VAIO TZ270 at 1.33Ghz and 2 gigs ram. Would this little guy be good for basic gaming like Battlefield 2? Really appreciate if someone could confirm that as this is a big purchase for me and am also looking at the Vaio SZ780 but I personally find it to big for my needs and want something small but with at least some power to run Battlefield 2 as that is the only game I play lol. Thanks for ur help!!
