    Hello people!

I bought a VAIO SZ-55 hoping to use AutoCAD and Maya with it.

The dealer said, with its separate video card (an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS GPU), it will suffice.

I found out however from the Autodesk website that said graphics card is not among those recommended. The site recommends an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card for the job.

    I hope to upgrade then.

    Is it doable?

    Any thoughts?

    Tnx, all!

The GPU cannot be upgraded or otherwise changed.

That said, the Quadro graphics cards are said to be similar to the discrete graphics cards. I've heard of some users tweaking their Quadro drivers to run games more smoothly, maybe there's an option to tweak your 8400M GS drivers to be more targeted towards AutoCAD/Maya? I think you should be fine with the 8400M GS, even if it's not on the "recommended" list.

No, it's not possible to upgrade. The 8400 GS may not be "recommended" but it WILL suffice. AutoCAD works fine on non-Quadro cards. I was animating a fairly complex 3D scene in Autodesk's Maya nicely on a desktop equipped with a Radeon HD 2400, which is in the same class as the 8400. You'll be ok.
