It's all about the graphics (for Aero) section.

I did quite a search but I couldn't find much info. Some threads say it increases by 0.1 after changing different drivers, but the search didn't bring me to a concrete value. Maybe I am not that good with searching, but I decided to just ask/post.

With Sony Vaio Z and SR(on ati 3470), what is the score for Graphics?
I would like to know if there are any improvements over my SZ (I get 3.5 score), and I know there are reviews and numbers for 3Dmark and stuff, but I found that's mostly good for games. I do not do any gaming whatsoever, but I do use big external displays over the docking station (26" now, I would like to go to 30" if possible, but single DVI won't let me..). So, I found this Graphics Score to be quite a way of telling how good will windows run on an internal+external display.
Please post a screen shot of the Performance page, for both models, who ever owns them.

Another question, how glossy is the SR compared to the SZ display?
Also, why are the lids thicker? My SZ is only 2mm thick, but the SR looks like 5mm.

I saw the other SZ versus SR thread, but I didn't wanna change the subject in that thread.

Windows Experience Index tells one absolutely nothing. It doesn't determine if one can run Aero or 2 monitors or video games on high settings.

The ATi 3470 should be able to handle a 26'' second monitor without a problem (WUXGA I assume?).

Hopefully an SR owner can answer that question.

It doesn't tell about 2 monitors, of course, but it does tell something. For example, my SZ lags a little with Aero fully enabled on the external display (1920x1200). So I turned off transparency and other things, I do not really care about them but after paying 2000$ (on a new Z for ex.) I would like to know how good will it handle the ext display. I found Gateways ($550) that handle like my SZ, nasty and bulky indeed but have the same 3.5 score as my SZ at Graphics.

Which video card(s) does your SZ have?

    -Just x3100
    -Just HD4500
    -Both x3100 and 8400GS
    -Both HD4500 and 9300GS

If you are running two monitors on either the x3100 or HD4500, then it's expected that you will receive lag. Both are integrated graphics which are meant to handle only basic tasks. Make sure your notebook is on performance mode, running the dedicated nVidia graphics.

If you are looking to purchase a new notebook, consider filling out the FAQ and posting a thread in the "What Notebook Should I Buy" forum.

My SZ has the Nvidia 8400M GS, and it has a little lag (like on scrolling webpages, moving windows with aero enabled, etc). I always keep it in the SPEED mode, never use the intel integrated graphics. I would like something with some more power, not a lot more but enough to compensate the lag.

The Ati 3470 is just a step above the 8400GS (It's equivalent to a 8400GT). That being said, you may want to find people who do use external monitors with a 3470 and see if they get lag.

The FW with the ATI HD3470 @ 256 MB of vRAM has a WEI of 4.7 in graphics. Aero works flawlessly with transparency on, with no lag whatsoever, even when having multiple windows open. I also tried it with my 24" Acer monitor and again, it worked without problems, not noticeable lag.

That's good news. My score is 3.5 with the 8400M. I suppose your 24" Acer is at 1920x1200 resolution.
