Guide for Partition hard disk of Laptop & PC

The prupose of this guide is to help lot of laptop owners (especially sony vaio) who are facing difficulty in creating partitions of their desired capacity in Windows Vista.

The built in vista utility dont allow you to work with freedom, because some data, page files are located in different positions on HDD and thus restricting your partition facility.

I have tried below procedure myself and its easy and 100% working, though I dont take any responsibility. Its always good idea to create a recovery disc before you start. ok let us start now.

Brief Description:
We will use freeware prog Gparted for this purpose because it has nice graphical interface. We will create a bootable CD of above prog and will boot the laptop with this CD & perform partition. There are also other utilities available like Booting, Partition magic etc

Before you start, make sure you have following:
a) CD/DVD writer
b) 1 empty CD/DVD for creating Gparted bootable CD.
c) Approx 1-3 hours time (depending upon used space on ur HDD)


Instructions:
1) create recovery DVD's so in case anything goes wrong, you are always on safe side.

2) download file gparted-livecd-0.3.4-8.iso from following website

3) insert empty cd in your laptop and burn iso image of above file.
(note: do not create data disk of above file, use "iso image" option of your software.)

4) now you have to boot your laptop with this cd. Restart your laptop and keep pressing F10. once booted from CD you will see different dos-based messages , wait till you finally see gparted screen

5) from now onwards follow the following guide with screen shots:

6) you will use the option resize/move in above mentioned link.
you can use only four primary partitions. I would recommend to create two primary partitions, one as C: for your OS, other as D: and create further logical partitions (as many as you want) in second primary partition. (see below attached screenshot of my laptop)

7) when you resize your primary partition C: you will get unalloted remaining space, make sure to also consume/label them before you exit gparted utility.

8) after you are done exit the application and restart you laptop normally, you will see a startup recovery screen, dont worry , just relax & let it run.. after its complete your laptop will restart and C: drive will be scanned for errors automatically.. just relax and dont cancel it.

9) when the first time windows vista load it will take considerably longer time, but dont worry it will be ok next time.

10) now go to vista disk managemnt utility as follows

right click my computer icon > select manage > select disk management.

here you can see your new partitions... now you can easily rename/label your newly created partitions here.
