This seems to come up pretty often, and I myself spent a lot of time chasing around to figure this out... So I thought I'd make a guide to save everyone else the hassle :)

    Intel Graphics

First off, the Intel Graphics options (in the system tray). Disable the power saving feature here - it causes the display to get all washed-out and dim whenever you run anything full-screen.

    Windows Power Plan

Next, the Windows power plan options. Click the battery icon in the system tray and click "Change advanced power settings"...

And make sure this setting is off.

    Vaio Control Center

This one is easy to find.

    Disable the sensor

This is the one that kept me guessing for a long time, because I was still having problems even after disabling the three others.

Hit the windows key, type services.msc, and open it - a window will pop up. Scroll to "sensor monitoring service"...

And double-click it. This window will pop up - select "disabled" from the drop-down, and restart.

And that should do it! I haven't had any more auto-adjustment issues since.

i hate auto contrast on my vaio vpc-z1 with intel hd so i really appreciate this guide. thank you kanuk.
now it's better to watch videos / view images (and so on) on the go with intel hd. geforce gt330m still gives better quality but also consumes more energy.

it is working fine with windows 7 pro x64 and community drivers 263.14 / 2281

for german OS users: "sensor monitoring service" is called "Adaptive-Helligkeit"

Thanks for the guide, helped me a lot!

just wondering who really needs complete bull like autocontrast and autobrightness, I never found it to work as intended. I can adjust the display brightness myself. so annoying!

You, Sir, prove that there is hope left for humanity. Thank you! I literally just signed up to this forum to thank you. The contrast problem was driving me insane and I was about to take my laptop for repairs. This saved me a LOT of time and now I probably won't go insane. Thank you.

also signed up just to say thanks! this was driving me nuts, i'd done the first three but hadn't found the services.msc bit.

it baffles me why they would make it so much work.
