Hey I was looking at FW's today and noticed that I can only upgrade to a HD 3650 if I get 64 bit Vista, is this just sony trying to get more money or does the HD 3650 actually require vista 64 bit?

    well it doesnt require 64bit.
32bit can only use up to 4gb system memory which includes ram, graphics card, sound and anything else. with a 256mb card(ati 3470) you can use about 3.5gb.
with the ati 3650 you can only use about 3.25gb, as its a 512mb card.
so they make you pick 64bit witht ehati 3650 so you can use all 4gb and your graphics card.

although, i cant see why they charge £25 for 64bit, as it should cost nothing(does everywhere else). still worth it i think though.

i also had to pick 64bit to ge the 3650. mine should come in about 1-2 weeks.

Ok Thanks for the info =)

EDIT: Another question the FW's have HD 3xxx series cards since the new HD 4xxx series is out now do you think they will replace the 3470 with a 4470 and the 3650 with a 4650?

Ok thanks, so is it not worth buying a vaio at the moment? or will the performance increase from the 4xxx to the 3xxx not be worth waiting for?

EDIT: if I did opt fo the 3650 would it be possible to just load vista 32 bit on to it myself once I recieved it?

The 4xxxx will add 7.1 hdmi audio capability. Gaming performance will likely improve, but is this really a gaming laptop anyway....

Sure, you can load any operating system you want, just make sure to create the recovery discs before you wipe the hard drive.

    Ok thanks

Does anyone have an idea as to when Sony will be releasing a new product line to replace the FW?
