Does sony or any third party offer an adapter for an HDD that lets you replace the dvd or blu ray drives with an arbitrary sata hard drive? I can't find any information on this matter, yet in some random places i see people mention they have two HDDs in a cw series vaio.

Not sure about 3rd party, but Sony does not offer conversion kits for units that has no swappable/replaceable ODD, like CW series. For units like TT, where choosing additional HDD over ODD is an option, you can buy the conversion kit from Sony part store. It is, however, very expensive.
