Hi guys,
How do I know which interface is used for my S360? ATA-6, ATA-100, or ATA-150?
I thought ATA6 and ATA100 are the same? The reason is that I see Fujitsu has a SATA150 interface HDD at 5400 rpm but I don't know what does my S360P supports. Otherwise it'll just be a waste of money. Also, if the S360 is only set at ATA-6, then upgrading to a 5400 would be the same as 7200rpm w/ less money due to the max rate of data transfer, is this correct?
TIA.

You want to find ATA-6 (a.k.a Ultra ATA-100). While the interface data transfer rate limit is the same, 7200 RPM & 5400 RPM drives still have dramatic difference in seek time, i.e. the time to find the data. In fact, increasing HDD speed probably has the most dramatic impact on overall performance for most people. Any money invested in a 7200 RPM HDD will be well spent if you really want the performance.

Skyshade,
Thanks for the reply. So will my computer support the ATA150 HDD by Fujitsu? I'm thinking just getting a 40Gb fast HDD to use and have my current 4200rpm 80Gb one as an external HDD for data storage or backup. So I"m trying to maximize the performance -
Most harddrives are backward compatible, it will just cap out at ATA-100 transfer rate, but you want to make sure the Fujitsu drive is not a Serial ATA (SATA) drive. I don't think you can put SATA harddrive in PATA port (the one S360 uses).

Thanks Skyshade,
I think the Fujitsu was indeed a SATA one.I guess I'll just be cheap and get a 40Gb 7200rpm one for the 30% quick start up time then.

And right now, you aren't even getting a performance benefit by upgrading to SATA because no drive is fast enough to saturate the SATA controller.
