    Hello everyone!

I wanted to buy the Hitachi 200 gig 7200 rpm SATA hdd from newegg and use the old factory 200 gig 4200 rpm hdd as a backup. Since the AR-520E has room for 2 hard drives (primary/secondary) internally, will this work?

    a) plug the new hdd into the secondary slot, use a clone util (ghost/acronis) to clone the old hdd contents completely to the new hdd.

    b) with both drives now the same (hopefully) merely swap the placement so the new faster hdd is in the primary...

    c) then finally put the old hdd into the secondary, format it, and now have 2 hard drives in one lappy system.

I assume there may be issues with Vista & the cd key authentication... but I was merely trying to avoid having to purchase a separate drive enclosure (since the AR-520E had room for 2 hdds).

Any tips would be great.. thanks!!

Shouldn;t have a problem at all. Have done it at least 20 times over the past years. Never had a problem with re authentication. It seems that just swapping the drive does not cause any problems.
