Hey guys,
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Z590 after upgrading the BIOS to R2170M3. Everything works perfectly but I just can't get any sound over HDMI on my TV. Totally ruins the Windows 7 experience...
I have the NVIDIA 187.35 drivers from Sony installed. When I install the previous NVIDIA drivers for Vista (174.49), I immediately get sound over HDMI. Apparently this is an NVIDIA problem. Anyone experiencing this? Will Sony release a new driver possibly?

I'm glad to hear that this is a driver issue but not a hardware issue anyway...

install the reatlek drivers direct from the reatlek website and it should work fine

if you're not using the new BIOS (I actually used R4043 with no problems) and the W7 Nvidia drivers from Sony's Europe site, that would be your first step. -
I wrote my solution regarding this issue on my Vaio Z before. Basically I only used Windows 7 drivers for the HD Audio and did -not- install Realtek drivers. Yes when I plug my Vaio Z to the TV over HDMI, the sound will stay on the laptop speakers. I will have to manually set the audio to be redirected to the TV's speakers. So I'll have to go to Control Panel > Sounds, you should see immediately 2 options for speakers, one for Laptop speakers, the other is HDMI. Have to select HDMI and set as default, then you'll get your audio over HDMI.
This is just my workaround, of course I would prefer that this is done automatically as soon as both ends of HDMIs are connected to the respected devices. -
well there definitely is a working solution for this, and while i'm not sure i can diagnose either problem very well, i know for a fact that mine works flawlessly. i installed R4043 bios, then installed the 8.15__ driver for Nvidia from the Sony Europe site, and then had the no-sound issue so I installed the R2.36 (it was a beta at that time) drivers from realtek, and it worked perfectly after that.
as for the OP's lack of brightness in speed, that is definitely an Nvidia driver issue that should go away with the new bios and nvidia driver, which leads me to believe he hasn't installed either yet; this then leads me to believe that once he does that, and tries the realtek driver, things should work.
we have the same model Z, so i hope it'll work out for you as well as it did for me -
Ok, installed Realtek HD Audio v2.36, HDMI audio is now automatically selected when HDMI cable is connected, yay.

I do have the latest BIOS (R2170M3). I tried both the latest NVIDIA driver posted for Z890 on the US support site and the one posted on the EU support site to no avail. The brightness controls as well as everything else work totally fine. (I am basically using the latest SONY Event Service, Shared Library, etc. from the Z890 support page.) And yes Digital Audio (HDMI) is set as default under playback devices. Also tried 2 different cables. No sound whatsoever.
The only reason I can think of why it works for some of you is the R4043 BIOS. I guess I might just try upgrading to that to see what happens. I will report back if I upgrade. -
oh, i misread your post about the brightness. my bad!
anyway, i guess the only difference i can see now is the R4043 bios... -
Hello, I have the same problem on my vaio vgn z590 with windows 7 64bit . i am using bios version R4043. i tried origina windows drivers and just released realtek. but there is no audio coming through my tv speakers. my driver founds my tv. but there is no sound
. Maybe it is bios problems ? are there any difference in using bios version for 1 and 2 versions of vaio z ? please respond.

I tried the R4043 BIOS and it is the same. No output over HDMI. It is definitely the NVIDIA drivers. There are many posts on the NVIDIA forums talking about the same problem. Apparently the 18x.xx series drivers cripple sound over HDMI. With the 19x.xx drivers the issue seems to be fixed; one can choose the connector type as HDMI w/sound or HDMI w/out sound in the NVIDIA control panel.
I am waiting for Sony to release an updated video driver, which is unlikely IMO. The Vista driver fixes the sound, but brightness controls obviously don't work in Windows 7. Completely annoyed with NVIDIA's buggy drivers as always... -
Have you tried to just install the "new" nVidia HDMI Audio driver?

They solved my desktop problems.
