I know with the docking station that you can buy a cable and go from DVI-->HDMI and you will have the same quality as HDMI-->HDMI but what about if you buy a cable for VGA-->HDMI will that work?

Will i get sound will the quality be just the same as it would with the first two methods that i mentioned.

I have seen this selling on Ebay.

You can also buy a docking station for the SR and have HDMI as well.

I don't plan to use the HDMI very much at all but i bought a new flat screen tv and once in a while i might connect my laptop to my tv and some dvd's or movie clips that i have made.

It wont work correctly, VGA is analog and HDMI is digital...it will look like crap, your actually better off just using a VGA to composite/component/S-video cable connection...it will look better. Besides, VGA can still look good at high rez, this is misconception, look on the internets. The only difference is that those cables dont carry sound with them as hdmi does, but im sure you can figure something out for that.... good luck! So, my point being, even if you did get this cable, you would be losing picture quality via the conversion from analog to digital, and there would still be no sound carried in the hdmi cable as it came from a vga port...

Thanks i think that i am just going to for the docking station now then as i did some research into it and i read that DVI-->HDMI is the same quality as HDMI-->HDMI.
I won't buy a docking station for full rrp i will look around for a good deal.

I agree that's the best choice for your needs. But, as I mentioned earlier, even with the DVI-HDMI connection, i think there will be no sound.... so you will have to figure out some sort of other solution for sound.... good luck!

I suggest using something like the Creative Xmod wireless, or the Linksys music bridge and connecting the speakers near your television if this is your plan....(To watch movies, play games on your tv)

Thanks i never realised that you won't get any sound using a DVI connection to HDMI that is a bit of a shame then.

I was thinking as well if there might be any other docking stations/replicator that comes with an HDMI port that might fit the SZ as well but i haven't really looked into this that deeply. I am under the impression that it will work if you can find one to fit.

I am not that desperate to get HDMI but i thought that if i could then why not? I am not sure if i will get the docking station now. I will also look at the other options that you suggested. My TV also accepts USB as well so i will explore maybe what that can do as well.

    Edited to add:
This seems like it will work but it seems to be a bit to much bother for me.

I have seen this as well.

    This looks interesting also.

You could also get the Sony docking station and do the DVI--->HDMI and then put an audio out cable through your headphone jack into your tv.
